Retain Camera Metadata after audio sync

PostWed Mar 17, 2021 12:43 am

Hi, we are starting post for a feature shot using an URSA and audio was recorded using dual system audio without time code, all the video files (1600 of them) have been tagged with scene, shot and keywords, however when we sync them with the audio files (using waveform or waveform and append audio track), the scene and shot metadata from the camera gets replaced with the one from the audio files (actually none) so it deletes all the scene and take info on the files. Is there any way to avoid this from happening and keep the camera metadata? Thanks.

At least pop up a warning and let the user choose how to handle merging metadata.

On my last project, I had synced audio using waveforms, then manually logged slate data, because neither the camera nor audio contained it. A while later, discovered some of the syncs were a slightly off. So, I manually unlinked, slipped the audio into place, then re-linked, only to find out that the manually-entered slate data gets overwritten by the empty sound metadata.

In my case, the camera was Red Helium, and the recorder was Zoom, but I don't think that matters.
