17.1 does not pick up NVidia card

PostWed Mar 17, 2021 2:19 pm

Hi All,

Installed 17.1 today (patched up windows 10), and noticed on rendering it did not pick up h265. Also no nvidia renderer available. So I quit DR and installed the latest studio driver, rebooted, hoping this would fix it. But the options are still not there in the renderer.

In the configuration panel all looks okay:

But clueless what could be wrong... Anyone else experiencing this?

What you're seeing in Preferences is normal.

This is the drop down, which only has h264 now, it usually has a bunch, including the wanted h265:

Might have to add I did a few reboots as well. And a reinstall *with* the geforce experience. But no change...

What version of the driver do you use ?

Here is what I have, and it's working great :)

Also, are you using the FREE or STUDIO version of Resolve ?
I don't think that the FREE version supports hardware encoding ...

It worked before updating to 17.1. Then it didnt. So I updated the nvidia driver to 452.06-desktop-win10-64bit-international-nsd-dch-whql. But that did not solved it.

Oh, I have the studio version!

Well 452.06 is dating back to August 2020 and is not the latest!

I have been using 461.72 studio ( February 25 2021 ) ... and just installed 461.92 studio ( released today ) and it is working with both.

That is weird, I was sure I downloaded the latest today... I will make sure I get the latest, and install that and see if it makes a difference...

Maybe I just used the google search result to download the driver... Pfft...

Right, feel pretty stupid for downloaded such an old driver 'update'. But getting the Studio 461.92 one fixed things!

just leaves me wondering, why did the 17.1 update broke nvidia's renderer? Or did it need soemthing which is in the very latest studio driver ... ?

There are times when a new version of Resolve will require a driver update for the GPU.

Always go to nvidia.com for the drivers.

I did, but I used google to search for the driver. Which led me to an older page. But shouldve followed the path from nvidia's homepage. Wont do that next time :)
