RE: Image sequences, Resolve 16 & 17 on both OS X 10.15.x and Windows 10
Having trouble conforming using image sequences. It just never finds the media.
Hello,
Here is my workflow:
1. Shoot footage with digital camera that records DNG.
2. convert to EXR's
3. Create Avid DNxHD media for Media composer editing from the EXR sequences
4. After edit, export EDL (CMX3600)
In Resolve I'd like to import the EDL and conform back to the EXR sequences.
When I bring the EXR sequences into Resolve they do show up as clips (not individual frames). Which is good.
However, the issue I am running into is Resolve is renaming the image sequences such that the frames become part of the clip name. Ex. Original name is 0200.0030.Fin_v1 but Resolve changes the name to 0200.0030.Fin._v1.[0000-0134].exr. I thought at first the brackets were there simply to show the frame range like in any other image sequence friendly tool (like Nuke). But if I go to clip properties the actual name now includes the [0000-0134].exr. Now the names do not match the EDL clip names. I tried creating new Reel Names using the clip names but these ended up including the brackets and extension as well. I've also renamed the clips hoping that would allow a match to the edl but that didn't work either.
As a test, I created a new sequence in Resolve using the EXR sequences and exported an EDL. The clip names in the exported EDL now also include the bracketed frame numbers and extension. This can't be on purpose unless the folks at Blackmagic Design have never used image sequences before which I am sure is not the case.
So, how does one conform using image sequences? I have tried everything over the course of several weeks now. I've read everything I can find on the issue including reading everything in the manual.
I've tried every option in Project Settings->General Options->Conform Options. Using timecode Embedded in the source clip and also From the source clip frame count. I've tried using reel names with every available option. And every other combo in that setting window. Tomorrow I will try writing a python script that will add the brackets and extension to every clip name in the EDL to see if that helps.
Here is a sample of the EDL I'm using. Perhaps it's not formatted correctly?

We don't use Reel Names in our pipeline but I could certainly add them where needed.
Thanks for any ideas of where I can start looking to resolve this issue.
