2x 2080 Ti > 1x 3080 RTX for H265 decode?

I'm wondering if 2x 2080Ti might not be a better choice for me. I mainly need fast H265 decode performance to avoid optimized media for everything.

Since the NVDEC/ENC engine seems mostly the same between the 20 and 30 series cards, I'd be getting two times the decode performance with two cards?

With the chip market being nuts, 2x 2080Ti actually cost me less.

Hi.

I don't think you can add the decode/encode performance between Graphics Cards.

Some time ago, I read about hardware decoding. I can't remember where, or if it was for nVidea, Radeon or Intel. But it was stated that it had two separate decoding channels, for concurrent decoding/encoding of two separate video streams.

So I expect with two Graphics Cards, you don't get faster decoding, but the possibility to have two
concurrent decoding/encoding at the same time.

Regards Carsten.

I think the best option is to use Proxies/Optimized Media. You'll never get performance on par with Cineform/DNx using H.265.

I9 8950hk pci specs 1 x 16x or 2 x 8x

So your cpu can only handel 1 graphic card with 16x speed ! With two graphics card the speed will be 8x for both.
And you have to look at your psu if it is big enough for two graphics card !

Not sure how Resolve handles this, but almost sure you won't get any performance gains for a single file decode.
With h265 you mainly want to to be able to decode files in realtime, which both GPUs do. Anything above this is important only during export, but 2 cards won't decode h265 2x faster during export. 95% sure speed will be the same as for 1 card.
1 area where 2 cards may help is multicam with h265 source files. Then 2 cards should decode more files at the same time.
