Opening a backup from one computer on another

PostWed Mar 24, 2021 8:51 pm

Hi,

I’m trying to open a backup of a project (a project.db.1647328200181 file) from one computer to another.

I was editing on a Mac with Resolve 16, and the entire Mac died, doesn’t even boot. No problem I thought because all my files including project auto backup were in an external drive.

I have another machine (this one a windows PC) also with resolve 16 installed. It has some other older projects in its home screen/project screen but not this one as I never edited this one on this machine. My question is how to open/load it?

I’ve tried:
1. (From the home/project window) Right clicking another project and clicking “Project Backups...” No dice, it shows only that projects backups and won’t let me navigate elsewhere.
2. (From the home/project window) Clicking the little database tab and clicking the “Restore” button. No dice because it’s not a .backup or .diskdb file, so I can’t see it.
3. (From the edit window in a new project) Clicking “File” menu and “Import Project.” No dice because it’s not a .drp or .resolve.zip file so I can’t see it.

I have the free version of Resolve 16, but am willing to upgrade to 16 Studio if it will solve it. Some say it has more robust backup/share capabilities.

Any other methods by which it can be loaded?

(As I can no longer see the original computer project screen I cannot export or do other things there. But I do have these nice back files, again Project.db.58403846383 format)

Thanks so much!

Without a .drp, I think you're in trouble.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

As in update I created a new blank project in the current database and then turned on auto save and waited for it to create a folder. Then I copied the backups from the other into that (new blank) projects folder and now I can see them all of them, but when I click one it throws an error saying such and such *long string of letters and numbers* doesn’t exist in the database. I can find and open the database file on the host machine using a text editor. Can I add the string of letters and numbers to it so it exists there? I believe the information is not corrupt.

And while Studio is worth every cent, it will not help you with this.
A .drp and your original media would enable you to reconstruct your project, even if some things might be need manual help.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
