Hi, I am a noob and just got DaVinci Resolve Studio DRS17.1 activated.
I was using the Beta version and saved what I thought were backups.
But I guess what I thought were backups are not actually backups.
The files the DRS17.1 finder is going for are *.backup or *.diskdb files but the only backup files I have are Project.db.* files.
I had to sell the old computer to get this one and thought I had copied all I needed from the old computer.
Did I screw up?
Is there a way to recover them or perhaps convert them?

But am getting a little confused partly because it doesn't give Linux instructions.
Are these correct directions?

Do these "project.db" files have date and time stamps following "db"? Is that what you're indicating? A series of numbers?

If so, make a copy of the file, rename it to remove the time/date information, so that it's just "project.db". Then put that "project.db" file into an appropriately named folder (name of project). And finally, put that folder into the Projects folder of the current database.

Hi, I did rename as you and the link said but I guess the problem is that I can't seem to find the Projects folder.
For example, when I start DVS it has projects "folder" up but my old projects are not there. I right click but there is no "Open file Location" option but I was able to pull up 2 of my old projects using the "Other Project Backups" choice (neither are the ones I need).
However, I am unable to relink media to it...I tried to do comprehensive search as well as manually linking the media folder I used before but neither works.
I was able to "Open File Location" under Local Database but putting the project.db file there nor putting it in a file there, did nothing because they don't show up in the Projects "folder" that initiates on starting DVS.
I tried searching my computer for a file named the names in the Local Database as well as the names I named new projects but I still can't seem to find the file location.
I am using Ubuntu 20.04.2 but I also tried to do this on Win 10 without success.
But the Project.db AND media files are there and not corrupted...it is just a matter of having DVS "see" and manage them.

In Windows, I believe for newer installations it's user><username>appdata>roaming>blackmagic, etc.......

But maybe just create a new disk-based database. Select the volume, create and name a folder for the database, go into the Resolve database manager, name, browse to folder you just named and create the database. Now you know exactly where it is. Once it's created, exit Resolve, go to the database folder, drill down to the project folder and paste your project.db files (each inside a separate folder) inside it. Then start Resolve and hope for the best.

obviously I didn't explain it very clearly but I tried that already.
I named a new database as well as a new project and tried searching for those names to backend find the location.
Neither tactic was successful although the project and databases seem to work as normal.
Mr. Tufvesson? Is there are specific location in Ubuntu that the project.db files should be placed in as default? I did a full search and files that are clearly named in the projects or databases don't seem to show up on those searches. Very confused.

Search your disk for a folder called "Resolve Projects". When you find it, take note of the named database to which it belongs, then open it and successive folders until you find a folder called "Projects". It's into that folder you want to paste the project folders you reconstructed from the project.db backup files.

Then open Resolve, make sure you're connected to the database you just altered, and proceed.....

OR

Since you already created a new database and a project within it, search for "project.db". Then move backwards two folders, which should be "Projects" and paste as above.

However, I cannot help you with Ubuntu specific issues. All this is assuming the structure is similar to Windows.

Assuming everything is configured as default. Under Linux the default disk database is located in the users home directory. If you have Project.db.* backup files they should be placed in the correct place in the disk database structure. Each file must be renamed Project.db and placed in its own subdirectory with the project name.

Yes, I didn't change anything and have no external drives, only the main one.

I created both a new project as well as a new folder with the Project popup window when DVS17 first starts.
When I try to search for them, whether from the "Computer" or the "Home" levels, I can't find those created project/folders. Nor can I find anything on my computer containing "Projects" or "local"

I drilled down to the location that you mentioned which indeed did have the aforementioned projects (I still can't understand why I can't just search for them manually) and did the insertion as you directed.
Now I can open the old backup from my last computer but all the "Media Offline".
However, when I tried to resync the media files, it claims "726 of 726 clips could not be found" even after I try to do a comprehensive search. Not sure what I am doing wrong as the media files are there and on the same drive that DVS17 as well as the projects are (ie, I only have one drive I am working off).
I feel like I must have a learning disability. Why can't I figure this out?
