Problem creating 2 mono tracks from stereo track

I have been trying to split a stereo track into 2 mono tracks using clip attributes after tests with my Saramonic Blink 500 pro wireless.
Track one creates a mono track with only left audio, while track two converts to mono fine.
Have tried different things and it seems to be limited to track one.
I came up with a workaround by keeping the offending audio track as stereo and embedding track one audio on both left and right. It even renders okay. Is this a bug or am I missing something. I am in resolve studio 17.0.

Right click the Timeline Audio Track header and select "Convert to Linked Group".

Unlink via Fairlight menu > Link Group

Hello,
I prefer to do it externaly, using Sound Device Wave Agent (free, macOs and Windows) to split stereo file or combine mono files.

In clip attributes, delete whatever is already there (the stereo track) - you're just changing routing, not deleting audio.

Add two new mono tracks, select the left and right as the two sources.

I have to do it all the time where left is the built-in mic and right is boom / RF / desk feed. No bugs here.
