Incorrect 7.1 channel mappings in DCP export

PostTue Mar 30, 2021 9:56 pm

Is there a reason why Resolve will only export 7.1 masters as 8 channel audio files, no matter which option is selected in the format dropdown? DCP standard practice has the back surround tracks on channels 11 and 12 of a 12 channel file. The 8 channel files from Resolve do not play properly in our 7.1 cinema, as channels 7 and 8 are ignored by the Dolby CP750 processor. I ended up using DCP-o-matic to create a 7.1 DCP, and that played back flawlessly.

Channel mapping options really need to be improved for DCP output, or Resolve itself needs to do a better job of following industry practices. I know the goal is to make it easy for users, but sometimes easy leads to incompatibilities.

You are not alone. There is so much confusion and problems regarding audio mapping/rendering/monitoring. Obvious things are so convoluted to do.
I think this is one of the key elements which BM needs to re-write.

I'm just chiming in with a bookmark of mine. These specs are not from the official "DCI" specs, but they did work for me (using Easy DCP):

And the Resolve DCP audio setting for configuration, ISDCF 7.1 DS or ISDCF 7.1 SDDS doesn't give you this?

Where is the setting for this configuration? I am struggling to create a 7.1 VF DCP to accompany our 5.1 deliverable.

It's on the audio tab when you use DCP as the export type. Make sure you have your 7.1 bus as the audio output otherwise I don't think you see the options.
