Clip speed

When I record in 30FPS and on the edit page, bring the clip speed down to 24 I reduce the speed by 80%.
Problem is that 30fps is very nice and smooth but very choppy at 80%. That is after I have rendered the clip. Am I doing something wrong?

Do you really mean by 80% (6 fps) or to 80% (24 fps)? The former will always be choppy, but you can try Optical Flow with Speed Warp (inspector). To get 24 fps, just go into Clip Attributes and change the speed there.

I meant I reduce it to 80%. (24fps). I will try Optical flow. Thanks

Yeah it should look smooth if you did it like Uli said, I've noticed Resolve being strangely 'choppy' with certain changes

Try shoving an adjustment layer over your footage (don't put anything on this adjustment layer) and playing it back with that over the top.

Surprisingly doing this has given me smooth playback over all my effects when they were stuttering before

I will definitely try that. I love off the wall solutions.
BTW When I used optical flow I got smooth playback but a slight lum flicker top right. If I added Speed Warp it was OK. But Speed warp, ironically, slowed the rendering down immensely.
