H.264+265 running smoother than ProRes/DNxHR?

PostWed Apr 14, 2021 1:05 pm

On my system, (R5 3600, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1080,) H.264 and H.265 run better than any ProRes or DNxHR flavor. Could this be because I am using a mechanical hard drive?

It could be, especially if it’s a 5200 RPM drive.

I'm using a 7200 RPM drive. Guess it's time to save up for a 2TB SSD :? :o
I really hope that those SSD prices go down.

It's easy to check, star playback and check for disk usage and throughput in windows performance monitor, also benchmark the disk with Crystalmark for MB/s and then check the birate of your media against that. But yes, SSD would be a smart move.
