Help with Color Viewer LUT Application

PostFri Apr 16, 2021 3:06 pm

Hello,
I've been wanting to apply a LUT to the Color Viewer via the setting in the Color Setting Page. No matter what LUT I select, it has no effect on the Color Viewer in the Color page. Someone mentioned that there is a setting in the USER PREFERENCES to turn this on, but, I haven't been able to find anything.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Please note that the External Monitor LUT works as expected. I just can't get the Viewer LUT work.

edit: I've unchecked "disable overlays" with no effect. A quick search shows other are asking the same question. What happened to "Color Viewer Lookup Table?

Uncheck "disable overlays" worked for me on the color page, but not on the editing page.
But maybe that's why it's called "color viewer".

If I add a LUT to the Color Viewer, it shows only on Color, as I'd expect.

If I add the LUT to Video Monitor, it shows elsewhere.

Does this still work for you Jim? It does NOT for me on V17.1.1. Nothing I put in either Color or Scopes changes anything on the Color Page.

I haven't been able to get this to work, either.

Tested again today in Studio 17.1.1 for Windows.

Adding a LUT for Color showed up on the Color page.

Adding a LUT for Video monitor showed up on Edit.

Just received from help from Manny at BMD support for this. It turns out that, at least in my case, unchecking the Hide UI Overlays in Resolve > Preferences > User > Playback Settings allowed the Color Viewer to SHOW the effects of the LUT listed in the Color Viewer Lookup Table setting in Project Settings > Color Management. If you have a LUT set, toggling the Hide UI Overlays check box will show/clear the LUT effect in Color Viewer. I had this setting on to improve playback performance, although I did not know that it interrupted this feature. I guess this makes sense since the setting is all about increasing performance during playback and applying a LUT in the Color Viewer during Playback is a performance hit. If this tidbit is documented, I clearly missed it.

It still doesn't fix the Scopes LUT issue for me though, in that no LUT in that setting changes anything in the scopes (and I'm assuming that I would see some change in the scopes by installing a LUT - am I wrong?).
