Would Davinci Resolve Free run on Huawei MateBook D 16 AMD?

PostTue Apr 20, 2021 10:22 am

Would like to know if Davinci Resolve Free would run in a half-way acceptable way on a HUAWEI MateBook D 16 AMD? That laptop has an AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 integrated into an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with 16 Gb RAM. I would use an additional external portable USB-C display, thus the screen would not be the problem.

Note that I am not a professional user, just want to learn a bit basic HD video editing things while I am travelling. Thus, a desktop is no alternative (as long as I do not become a professional ;) ) and I also cannot spend a couple of thousands for a gaming laptop (I don't like gaming...). I have read that the free DR does not use the GPU for processing, thus I assume it would run?

That information is internet BS. Resolve is always using the GPU and the one in that laptop is too weak.
If you are happy with HD and don’t need GPU-heavy effects often, I’d consider a MacBook Air M1.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
