Project Settings missing Motion Estimation option

PostTue Apr 20, 2021 11:05 pm

On the Edit page Inspector Panel under the "Retime and Scaling" section are settings for "Retime Process" and "Motion Estimation". The default value for these is "Project Settings".

Under project settings, down at the bottom of the "Master Settings" page, are the Frame Interpolation settings "Retime process" and "Motion estimation mode" which look to be the equivalents of the Inspector Panel settings described above.

But "Motion Estimation mode" in the project settings lacks the "Speed Warp" option that is present in the Inspector Panel. Is that intentional? I'm wondering whether to report it as a bug or not...

I have the Studio version of DVR, so it's not obvious to me why that option wouldn't be available as a project default.

Seems to be intentional. Speed Warp can be quite slow, so you may want to apply it only to clips that really need it. I can also see it in the Inspector only.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks, Uli - you're absolutely correct that it is intentional. I checked in the Resolve 16 manual (should have done that first, obviously) under: Part 5 - Edit Page Effects --> Speed Effects --> Speed Effect Processing --> Optical Flow Quality Settings Affecting Speed Effects (page 845) and indeed for "Speed Warp" it specifically states: "This setting is only available on a clip by clip basis; it's not available in the Project Settings".
