I have a timeline with 600+ clips, all imported without the embedded audio. In the media pool, all clips have stereo audio. In the timeline, there is no audio track at all.

Is there a built-in way to add the audio for all 600 clips to the timeline, in one fell swoop (or even, at all)? The clips in the timeline each show no audio attributes, whatsoever.

Doing a test on a single clip, and doing a "Replace Clip", using the original clip from the media pool, fails to bring its audio along. Apparently Resolve is convinced that this entire video track has no associated audio, and can't be convinced to accept any. Somehow, I think that's the key, first step. Do I need to somehow create a placeholder stereo Audio Track in advance that is linked to the Video track?

It sounds like you need to do some basic training. There are training resources on the BMD website.

Without further info, it sounds like you have edited only the vision into the timeline. Did you not notice while editing?

Replace Clip only replaces what is already on the timeline, it will not add video or audio if it's not already there.

As far as I know there is no way to add the audio for all clips at once.

I would probably export an edl, modify it with a text editor to include audio, and then re-conform in Resolve. The only other way is to match frame each clip, then re-edit including the audio over the current clip, using the Overwrite function.

There is not.

As sort of a 20/20 hindsight idea, I find it better to add the audio along with the video in most all cases, and either Disable the audio for that clip, or Mute the entire track. This makes it very easy to get the audio back should it ever be needed.

It is never necessary to start a post with a veiled insult. It adds nothing, and makes the poster sound like a bully.

In fact, I deliberately added the 600 clips, in one go, without the audio. I had another source, which after 6 weeks of editing on a 2-hour film, turned out to be unwieldy.

Resolve has a method for relinking media in the media pool to the original media. It is not unreasonable to expect a similar command to relink media in the timeline to that in the media pool -- one that I had failed to discover in all this time -- or at least some cute trick to accomplish the same.

I had hoped to avoid the "export - edit - import EDL" process, but it seems that is not to be.

If you added the 600 clips in one go, can't you just do that again and include the audio?
Your description is not completely clear. I can't imagine an edited sequence where I add 600 clips in one operation. What exactly are you doing?

You say "unreasonable to expect" but I think referring to the user manual is a better option than expecting things to work a certain way. Relinking can only relink to what is already on the timeline.

Recommending education is never an insult.

Delivery of the idea can range from polite to brusque. (I found Peter's delivery quite neutral, myself.) But the idea itself is always an effort to improve the individual's situation.

It's meant to help, and it pretty much always does.
