I came to work this morning, and...audio doesn't play out of Resolve.
I didn't change anything. System audio works fine, just...not Resolve.

There's....so....many....problems...

Resolve 17.1.1 Build 9
Windows 10 64-bit
Ryzen 3700x
NVidia 2060 Super 8GB

Might be Resolve, might be Windows, might be your audio I/O.

First, reboot/restart everything. Bugs happen.

Check to see that you have signal on the meters in Resolve. If so, that indicates Resolve is working and passing audio (although you might want to confirm your audio I/O settings are correct while you're there).

Next would be Windows and your audio I/O, settings & drivers.

I don't do Windows, but expect there's some sort of control panel or interface to configure the sound settings.

Just about every time Windows does an update I need to go through and "fix" the audio stuff that gets broken :-(

Hearing extremely loud audio distortion at random points when playing back a timeline either on the Fairlight or media page. I did not experience this with DaVinci Resolve 16. I recently upgraded my OS to Big Sur and to DaVinci Resolve 17.1.1 Build 9 at the same time. And now experiencing this issue. I have a macbook pro, again running Big Sur, and I am attached to a Universal Audio Apollo x4 interface.

I will also lose my audio randomly and have to close resolve and re-open. So friggin annoying as this happens 1-3 an hour.

We have had a seemingly endless string of audio problems with Resolve on Windows, especially 16 and 17.

We now have no choice but to do all audio work in a separate DAW. It is painful, but the only way we can get jobs done.

In fact, just today I made the mistake of briefly opening the Fairlight page; when I went back to Edit and hit Play, the timeline started playing, but the timeline GUI area was black and the rest of the screen was frozen.

It is really unbearable.

I spend much of my day exclusively in the Fairlight page and have not seen most of the issues I see here. Maybe some of it is Windows, but there are occasional Mac posts too. It can be a little rough around the edges, but for the most part works quite well, is very flexible and geared towards efficient workflow, and sounds great.

Note that I don't really use any of the other tabs except for the Media page, and on ocassion the Delivery page. I don't do editing, grading, effects or any of that. Just audio. That may be part of the problems people are seeing, bouncing back and forth between different sections of the program.

Resolve is a huge system trying to offer everything in one monolithic app, it's a huge challenge to get right.

My number one concerns are stability (I need to be able to trust and rely on the software) and audio quality (trust it not to mess with my sound), which I'll say Fairlight does pretty well. I don't need 100 new features every release, but understand those on the bleeding edge that do.

Cheers,
Thor

it can be complicated sometimes, and I'm still not quite sure how audio connection problems occur and vanish. Since some months I have a stable system with audio working all the time, but as an experienced mixing desk and DAW user who knows well about routing I had a few struggles last year.

There are two settings to observe:

1. Preferences Audio I/O. You may need to change 'System Audio' to manual, and set the audio ports.
2. in the Fairlight page, Fairlight menu, check if the outputs are properly patched.

There are a couple of threads about this topic on this forum.
