I'm not sure what this technique is called but hopefully you can see in the attached jpg. Basically, you have a video clip playing and then that clip is animated (moved) into the upper right corner of the screen as another video clip is played below or a still graphic appears center screen. I'm trying to ascertain what that technique is called and if anyone could please share a link to a good video (shorter the better) showing you how to re-create that technique I'd be very appreciative. Thank you.

It's called Picture In Picture and I would suggest doing a Google search.

Try the "video collage" effect under the Open FX category in the Effects Library. If you only need one window, you can limit it to only one window. The advantage of using the effect versus a more manual Fusion, Edit, or Color page approach is that the effect is easier to animate in and out with relatively few steps. Plus, it supports motion blur.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for suggesting the "Video Collage" effect. In the Edit Page when I click the OpenFX I don't see Video Collage. I see Mosaic Blur, DCTL, DeFlicker - am I in the correct area or library?

Thank you!

Put the background clip on V1.
Put the foreground clip on V2.
Open the inspector and reduce the size of the V2 clip.
Position to taste.

Time to do some training.

Peter, I placed the 2nd video on V2 and opened the Inspector but how have you reduced the size of clip 2?

Do you alter the X and Y axis under Transform?

I saw nothing of Picture in Picture in the DR manual.

Thank you.

Just experiment with the different sliders. Zoom makes the clip smaller or larger, position moves the clip.

Select a clip, inspectors Transform controls are shown, clicking the small dot on the right side of those sliders allows you to animate the transitions. I.e., frame one has the size as 1, click the dot and create a keyframe, move the playhead to for example to frame 30. Move and change the size by changing the values in zoom and position inputs. a keyframe is automatically added. When the clip is played back, Resolve fills the size & position in between the keyframes animating the size and position of the clip smoothly.

You can enable the transform overlay and change the size and position with your mouse.

Youtube is full of beginner tutorials about sizing, moving, cropping of clips.

I said size not axis.
Open the user manual and learn how to resize a clip on the timeline.
