Source View not updating to reflect Input Color Space

PostMon Apr 26, 2021 2:57 am

Can anybody reproduce this behavior?

1. Open both Source and TL viewers in Edit to same frame in Timeline clip.
2. In Media Pool, set Input Color Space for clip file
3. Image in TL View changes, but the one in the Source View does not UNTIL you click on that window or image, at which point it then changes to match the TL View.

When making changes to Input Color Space in the Preferences dialog, the changes are immediately seen in both the TL and Source viewers automatically. I would expect the same behavior when changing Input Color Space in the Media Pool without having to click on it. I initially thought nothing was happening. It makes it hard to immediately see the effects of the change.

Both viewers change at the same time for me.

Studio 17.1.1 for Windows.

Here is what I'm seeing. Here's a screenshot of when it happens, just before clicking on the Source Viewer to make it change to match the Timeline View, but right after selecting Input Color Space for the file in view and setting it to DCI XYZ. As soon as I click on the Source Viewer, it updates to match the Timeline Viewer.

Note that my Color Management Prefs are all set to Rec709 Gamma 2.4 for Input, Timeline, and Output Color Spaces, using Separate Color Space and Gamma option.

I still can't duplicate this, even using those same settings. The two Viewers change simultaneously.

Found that this behavior, as well as similar behavior with View > Show Gray Backgrounds in Viewers, is due to my having "Gang Viewers" in the 3-dot menu at the top right of either Viewer UNCHECKED.

Checking this setting makes both viewers update simultaneously, as you are seeing BUT ONLY IF THE TIMELINE VIEWER IS SELECTED when you do it. If you have the Source Viewer selected, then ONLY the Timeline Viewer changes UNTIL I click on the Source Viewer to make it change too.

I'm not sure if this is the expected behavior for these two particular functions (Input Color and Gray Backgrounds), but it does change their behavior. See if you can reproduce, Jim.

Thanks,
Shane

Mine was unchecked when I tested.

And it doesn't matter which Viewer is active when I right click on the clip.

Basically, I can't make this not work as expected.
