Dear BM developers,
I'm not really sure, where to post this thread because different points of interest are involved - Post Production, Live Production, DaVinci Resolve, Off Topic.
After a decade of using multiple BM products without any trouble - espacially Decklink cards - wich are running stable with every driver update on any platform I used, I’m now I big trouble on different installations of different tools.
All of my host systems running MacOS on Apple computers.
Short description:
iMac 5k, with Promise and LaCie Thunderbolt 2 Raids, Blackmagic Ultra Studio Express, DaVinci Resolve Pro 17.1.1, newest OS and BM Desktop Video 12 - no sound via Ultrastudio except after the start I plug the Ultra Studio out of the Thunderbolt chain and plug it in during the system is running or take the raids complete out of the chain.
Mac Mini, running OS Catalina to control a ATEM Mini - update to ATEM 8.6 /8.6.1 - recognized the ATEM Mini, updated the firmware but afterwards I can’t control the Mini with the ATEM Control software. No buttons or faders are touchable. Downgrade to 8.5.2 - everything works fine. And after hours of uninstall / reinstall drivers, I tried a borrowed MacBook Pro 16“ 2019 with Big Sur and the same setup works fine with 8.6.1
iMac Pro running Big Sur, DaVinci Resolve 17.1.1 - different projects with different mistakes.
Most of them jut during the export.
1. Filmed with BMPCC 6k, 25p, ProRes LT, 4k - nearly 40 short clips in 1 timeline. Project settings of DVR with popup dialog during first footage. I want to export 1080 MP4 and nearly 50% of the clips have audio problems. The first second audio is missing or overdriven.
2. Filmed with Sony FS7 / MPEG2 XDCAM, 50i - project settings of DVR with Popup during first footage. Export longer MP4 clips - around 16 minutes - audio is sometimes out of synch. Same on the iMac 5K installation. Problems with fields during the interlaced export - sometimes 1 frame dissolve between clips. Same on the iMac 5K installation.
3. Filmed with Sony A7S3, FX6, 1080p50, project settings of DVR with popup dialog during first footage. - export should be MXF, MPEG2 XDCAM, 50i - Problems with fields during the interlaced export - sometimes 1 frame dissolve between clips. Works fine with 50p export.
So not big productions but not even small ones. I takes me hours and hours to find workarounds and for the time critical TV-Features I’m back to a MacPro, running OS 10.6.8 and Final Cut Pro 7(Studio). This 10year-not-supported setup works without any problems with the interlaced footage, wich is regrettably the official german TV standard.
My wish: please go back to politics/procedures of stable and reliable products.
Thank you & regards.
Holger
