Speed editor, avoiding a bulimic purchase

PostMon Apr 26, 2021 7:42 pm

Questions about Speed Editor, to avoid a bulimic purchase and return, as it happened with my Resolve Editor Keyboard.

- It is possible to assign those Cam1-Cam9 keys to something else? They ocupate a pretty real state, where fingertips are ready to work, but I rarely edit multicam, and if I do it will be maximum 2 multicams, not 9.

Can those pretty keys to be assigned to any of those functions?:
* Color markers
* A or V track selector
* Lock A or V track

or any of the functions below...

- Selection follows playhead
- Select/Unselect All clips
- Workspace>Show>inspector/ Media Pool (Show/Hide)
- Paste attributes
- Show/Hide Retime Controls
- Clip>Show Keyframe Editor
- Enable/Disable Clip
- Go to next-previous keyframe?
- Go to next-previous marker?
- Transform with the joogwheel (zoom, position, angle, cropping) in combination with other key

Also I would love to know which of those functions above can already be fired from the Speed Editor.

I would love to work with Speed Editor only for cutting, however, if there is a lot of travelling between Speed Editor and the traditional keyboard, it will mean that I should move my kneck and my eyes for each travelling, which would imply fatigue. The goal would be to edit with the nearly eyes closed and quiet fingertips, to be immersed in creation, not switching between keyboards and controllers.

Is all of this possible? Which functions above can be fired on Speed Editor without keyboard?

Thanks in advance for your info

Generally it cannot do any of those things. It's purpose is to assemble quickly on the CUT page.

the Speed Editor is a great help that makes cutting much faster and more fun. Other functions can be simplified with control surfaces and other controllers.

I use a combination of Wacom tablet (8 programmable keys and a wheel with 4 modes), 3 old iPads running the Tangent Element app, a 3dx controller with lots of programmable keys (SpaceMouse Enterprise), a gaming mouse (again with a couple of programmable buttons), an Icon QCon controller for audio and automation, and Speed Editor.

You can add markers with it, but the main point of the speed editor is to be used on the cut page for a quick assembly cut and if you need to finesse it then put the speed editor aside and do more advanced stuff.

And if your footage is set up properly for the cut page you don't need to take your hands off the speed editor while working.

That said it would be really neat to get some customization options for it.

Absolutely, transform (zoom, position, angle) using alt keys with the joogwheel of the Speed Editor must be a dream.

...if those Cam1-9 keys can be customized to anything else, ("Elgato Streamdeck" style) :D :D :D

Don't plan on returning it if you buy from BNH. They sent me two even though I only ordered one, and wouldn't take either of them back, even though one was completely unopened.

BTW, anybody interested, PM me.
