how can I insert a clip in my timeline without affecting all the other tracks that have audio and pictures/video inserts timed to show at a specific frame on the timeline?

whenever I forget to insert a clip I get faced with the same problem - I have to go back the whole length of the timeline and manually re-sync all the music tracks, special FX, voice over... there's got to be a way I'm sure but can't find any videos or written material about this topic.

I am fairly new to video editing and at the beginning i had one track of video and audio, but now I am capable to inserting a lot more but i am also spending an incredible amount of time re-syncing everything everything when I forget a clip or decide to remove part of a clip. can someone point me in the right direct please?

I think you should take a step back and go through the Beginner's Guide. It's a great learning resource and covers such basics as these very well.

I know my own experience with Resolve improved dramatically once I had that training under my belt.

I agree with you, these video are awesome and watch all of them. I sometime come back to these videos from time to time for rudimentary information.

Although great video and would recommend them to everyone, they don't really touch on what I am searching help for in my particular case. There are literally thousands of video tutorials on youtube but I don't ever see video created with 7 audio tracks and 4 video track. Most videos I see are one video maybe two audio tracks and usually deal with less than 30 second timeline- which doesn't help me understand how to avoid having to "hope" i don't mess up my timeline by moving a clip a little to the right or left or removing a "hmmm, heeee, sh*t, and other word that I might have missed. i have been working with the link tool quite a lot and on my screen, this tool is temperamental and I am never sure if "Link" feels like doing its job from one day to the next lol.

Actually, I think the videos are a great resource for those looking to switch. But once you decide to start using Resolve, it's the manuals that are the way to go.

Go through not with the idea of solving this one issue, but with the more broad idea of learning the basics for the software. You'll get to this issue in due course.

The two things to read about are: the timeline track locks, and auto-selectors. These tools will help you in a variety of editing situations.

The way to look at learning Resolve is to treat it as a toolbox full of tools. Learn what the tools do and what they were intended for and then create your own solutions. The biggest issue for newcomers to Resolve is a reluctance to take the time to REALLY LEARN the tools FIRST. So many persist with complicated solutions for simple problems, simply because they are too impatient to learn the tools first. BTW I have been editing and training people for over 40 years and I have to beat this info into students EVERY time! You can't become a kung-fu master quickly.
