Clarification of Deliver Page - Gamma Tag Options

In the "Deliver" section we have a number of Gamma Tag options in the Advanced part.

The ones that I'd like some clarification on are:

Gamma 2.2
Gamma 2.4
Rec709
Rec709-A

My understanding is that Rec709 is essentially a colourspace rather than a gamma - and we can have Rec709 in more than one gamma, so the nomenclature is a bit confusing to me in the option listing.

I've been told that Rec709-A is essentially just a way of ensuring that any gamma option chosen (2.2, 2.4 etc) is played back correctly in players such as Quicktime, and doesn't itself make any visual changes to the output. So if I'm right there, the inclusion of Rec709-A makes sense.

But that still leaves us with Rec709 because if this is refering to just a colourspace I'm not sure what it is doing in the Gamma tag options, and if it is forcing some sort of gamma in the output, it would be helpful to have it titled differently?

My usual workflow is to have a timeline set to Gamma 2.4 and if the final output is intended for internet use, then I add a Colourspace Transform Node with just the Output Gamma changed to 2.2 (So I guess unless I'm changing the gamma tag in Deliver, I'm just expecting it to play with the original gamma that's set in the timeline).

And this is where I've gotten confused because although I assume changing the Deliver Gamma Tag to 2.2 or 2.4 will enforce that gamma, I'd like to be sure about the Rec709 and Rec709-A options.

In the words of Denzil... explain it like I'm a 4 year old... :)
