can't play/edit imported media

Newby here. Trying to edit my first clip, no problem importing any media however I can't play/edit any of the files. All files have been in MP4 format.

I have attached a screen shot that shows imported media however you don't see preview pic (which I gather is the problem).

I have searched the net and the forums and whilst there are many references to importing media, none reference imported media not working....any help would be appreciated

Are you using the free version of Resolve? If so and your files are 10bit you will need the paid Studio version.

Hi and thanks for your response. firstly, I am using the free version. I imagine my media is all 8 bit as it's recorded using normal setting on a Samsung phone. I have also tried some older videos all with the same result. I have included a screenshot displaying one of the clips media info.

Thx in advance for any assistance.

For best results in Resolve, film your footage with something...better.

This is the problem with the variable frame rate used by phones. I see in your pic that it states the frame rate as 29.777, so not the standard of 29.97.

Use a program like Shutter Encoder and convert it to a constant frame rate. I'd also suggest a codec like DNxHR or Cineform, so it's easier on the machine (but need more space).

Thanks for your assistance, i changed the frame rate to 29.97 and the codecs, still had the same problem so I imported a different file type with a frame rate of 25, still had the same result.

In frustration I uninstalled the software, deleted all related files and performed a clean install. Now the program doesn't start at all and it appears it has not installed the control panels. Uggg

Thanks for your assistance, I changed the frame rate and codec using Shutter encoder, unfortunately nothing changed.
