You have just learned to slow down, and pay closer attention to what the affect is when you hit a button.
(congratulations)
There are two different delete keys on many keyboards. In Resolve one deletes, and the other ripple deletes. Along with that, what you had selected when you hit delete could delete video only or audio and video...there are all sorts of situations. Had you done a few more playbacks along the way, I would think you would have caught the error earlier as well, and could have hit undo a couple of times.
Like I said, slow down, and pay closer attention. If you do go to delete something, zoom out on your timeline before you hit the button, so you can understand what is happening on the timeline.
If you are moving clips around the timeline, there is no reason not to do a review playback to see how that affects the edit. Again, this should tell you pretty quickly that you did something wrong. Perhaps an insert rather than overwrite.
Its called "learning to edit" and it sounds like you are well on your way.
Blackmagic offers some great and free training on their software. As Jim suggested, it might be time to look it up.
I went through the training. It all felt pretty straight forward. I was already doing most of what they were teaching, but yet again, I'm working on a project and a big chunk of clips got deleted without me noticing it. I was very far into a project, being careful, but to no avail.
I have no idea how it's happening, and the undo history does not go back far enough for me to undo it. I'm baffled here. Chunks of clips just... vanish. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, here.
