Slip Edit Audio in Fairlight?

PostSun May 02, 2021 12:25 pm

How can one slip edit an audio clip in Fairlight (i.e the equivalent to pressing T on the Edit page).

Cheers.

The Fairlight Audio Editor hardware panel provides a dedicated "Slip Media" key in the Edit megamode.

The Edit megamode's dedicated "Nudge Media Left" and "Nudge Media Right" keys slip media in frame increments.

Resolve's UI does not currently provide an equivalent for these functions on the Fairlight page.

I find that odd as IMHO it's a useful audio editing tool! Thanks Reynaud.

Hi Jay,
you can slip audio within clips without having the audio editor, but not in the Fairlight page, you need to go into the edit page to do it.
Select the audio clip, hit T to go into trim, the S to choose slip mode, then use , and . to slip waveform left or right.
Of course, if the audio is linked to a video clip you will be slipping the video at the same time, so unlink them if you only want to slip an audio clip.

I'm pretty sure the , and . keys also work on the Fairlight page, in fact I used them yesterday to nudge a track (I have the Audio Editor too, just that the keyboard was closer at that moment).

Hi Thor,
yep they do, but only to nudge the clip position, not to slip the audio within while retaining the clip position and boundaries. At least I haven't found a way to do it on the Fairlight page with a keyboard.

You're right Andy.

Nudge is in both the FAE and the GUI, slip appears to only exist for now in the FAE.

Page 3218 (no slip in GUI) and 3373 (how to slip with the FAE) in the manual.

They are adding new (old) features pretty rapidly, hopefully it will make it into an update soon.

Cheers,

Yes more good stuff with each update, for now I just swap to the edit page for slipping if I'm working at home (no FAE there) or creating compound clips. Now if only the gate clip function would return or add a strip silence of some sort..debreathing long reads puts me in a coma.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply. I’m aware I can do this in the edit page.. was just wondering if I could do it on the Fairlight page so one wouldn’t have to keep swapping between the two. Hopefully BM will resolve this in due time. (pun intended!)

All good, maybe you could edit the keyboard preferences and add a modifier like alt + , and alt +. so it's on the same keys as nudge? Haven't looked so see if it's in there as an assignable keystroke, but maybe?

I know its been a while but I wanted to leave an update for anyone searching for answers. Fairlight in Resolve 18 now has slip and slide. Alt+, Alt+. Shift+, Shift+. Just dont run water on it
