Relinking missing LUTs

PostMon May 03, 2021 8:18 pm

Hey everyone,

I know that this questions has been asked before on here but for some reason there is still no answer/solution/workaround to this problem so I'm starting the conversation again hoping that maybe this time we can figure it out.

I did some cleaning in my LUTs folder (there were too many LUTs and it was a mess) and now all my older projects are giving me the message that a LUT is missing. Obviously, it's not a problem to relink the LUT for ONE clip but when you have 100's of clips and each one has multiple LUTs applied to it which are now missing doing it one by one is out of the question.

So what's the workflow here? Is there a way to relink LUTs the way we re-link missing clips? Or a way to tell DR to look for those missing LUTs in "that" folder?

The fact that the path to LUTs on clips is not relative is a mess.

There should be an index of some sort built by Resolve, so if you actually sort and clean your LUT folder(s), Resolve will know this after startup scan and the LUT will link.

also a wrangling tool, where you get all the LUT of a project, put them in a single folder and link it to them.

I don't know how much trouble this could give but storing all used LUTs in a project file itself is to me the ultimate solution. Any project would remain compatible even with a clean install or different system.
Small chance this would happen though since they don't want Resolve to become project file centric anyway. Some might love it and I do believe that it has very good implementations for dedicated grading suites but I hate the database system for modern use and Resolve is definitely not grading exclusive anymore.

We are in a facility with literally hundreds of project and literally thousands of LUTs, you might use a lut form another project for whatever reason and when you pass the project to some other facility is difficult to:
Find the luts you used
Collect them
Rebuild teh path.

Usually we do a LUT folder per project like ../LUT/Shows/redNotice/00_master_luts and move those there so you can archive/pass the folder to someone else, but if you forget for whatever reason, you get the dreadful “missing lut” with no indication of which one of the 2500 clips and thousands of nodes it is.
