Help needed with creating modular presets

PostTue May 04, 2021 2:59 pm

Hey All.

Hope everyone is good. I've been using Resolve for about 8 months now and I'm wanting to start making modular presets/templates (ya know the ones that can work on any framerate + the length can easily be shortened or increased).

I'm currently working on social media popups and I've been banging my head against animcurves for the past few hours but I can't seem to figure it out.

My biggest confusion right now is how do I use animcurves for an animation that only takes 30 frames inside my 300 frame comp? For example, if I have a logo that appears and rotates 360 degrees all within 30 frames; how would I use an animcurve to implement this? Do I have to mess around with the time scale or do I have to do a custom curve from the "Curve" drop down?

Secondly, if my comp has multiple different animations going on, do all those animations require their own animcurves for it to be fully modular?

Thirdly, what are the actual differences between the 3 types of sources? I've read the documentation but it doesn't really make it clear as to when I would use Transition over Duration or over Custom. If I do use a custom source and say at frame 10, I keyframe it to 0 but at frame 40, I keyframe it to 1 - would that still be a modular animation or is it no longer modular because of the manual keyframing?

And, if animcurves aren't the way to do this, then please do give suggestions as to what tools I can use :)

Thanks!
