Cannot import video component

PostSat May 08, 2021 10:57 am

Hey Folks
These files play fine in Windows Media Palyer. But when I try to import in Resolve I only see the audio waveform. Why cant Resolve 17 read the video component of these files?

I think you will find that the Apple Intermediate Codec is not supported in Resolve. I couldn't find it in the supported codec list.
Resolve Studio 19.0b build 20
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo 860 SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (551.86 Studio Driver), Win10 Home (22H2), Speed Editor, Faderport mk1, Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ GW2270 + Samsung SA200, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

If I recall correctly, AIC was FCP's capture option for some tape-based formats.

If that's so, maybe try a re-capture of the original tapes using Resolve?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

It was always an Apple only codec and they dropped it when ProRes got a strong acceptance in the market.
Not much software out there reading it these days.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thank you all. This was the footage I experimented with on a Macbook some 5 years back for which I lost the originals. I converted it using handbrakes Prodution Max Preset for x264. Easy Peasy... The bitrate climbed down from 136mbps to 134 or whereabouts so good enough for me.
