In/out point not working when doing 4-point edit

Hi all,

I'm experiencing something which I feel to be an error according to my understanding of the documentation.

I understand that Resolve is a true 4-point NLE, in the vein of Avid, so the default paste behavior is at the in point instead of at the playhead. Likewise the in out point designate bounds of the working area whether in fairlight or edit mode.

So my question, I want to insert a clip between two others and have it cut the end before overriding the next track farther on (and then I'll slip it a little if I need to). But when I paste or drag and drop, it obeys the "in" point but not the "out" point. In other words it starts where it's supposed to but over-runs (doesn't clip itself off). Am I doing something wrong?

I thought this was the whole advantage of 4-point editing, unlike Final Cut Pro's 3-point editing where everything just pastes at the playhead and goes however long it goes.

But perhaps I just need to be in a different mode or hold a certain key.

Thanks in advance!

What page are you working on?

With four point edits, the In/Out on both timeline and clip must match durations. If that's not what you want, then set only an In point on the clip.

In the Edit Mode, is where I'm working. So you're saying if I leave the end point undefined on the clip (before I drag it in), it will go by the in and out points on the timeline? (Because that's what I want is for it to go by timeline in/out)

Yes.
