What is the correct way to generate proxy media in a color managed project using blackmagic raw footage?
The project color setting is "Davinci YRGB Color Managed" with preset "SDR Rec.709". The proxy media is set to "ProRes 422 Proxy". The raw-footage comes from BMPCC 4K.
When I let generate the proxy media with this settings, the resulting files have way too much contrast (like they where double passed through a Rec 709 conversion). When I switch back to "Davinci YRGB" before proxy-generation, I get the "flat" film mode proxy media files.
So is it the right way to switch off the color management every time before generating proxies? And so have no "Rec 709" converted proxy media?
Please let me know how you would approach this topic...thanks! Christian
The correct thing to do is shut off proxy before you color. Prores Proxy especially will murder your highlights.
But yeah, I get what you're saying. It's annoying. I think it might have to do with the Rec.709-A Quicktime metadata debacle. That, or the "use Mac display color profiles for viewers" checkbox.
