17.2 individual timeline clips names question

PostThu May 13, 2021 9:53 pm

Hi, can someone explain how to use this new feature in 17.2:

• Support for custom naming for individual timeline clips.

Cant find any reference to it in the manual.
Also... is it accessible via Python API?
Thanks

Right click>Clip Attributes.

Changed names apply only to that clip instance.

Take note that doing so will prevent Always highlight current clip in media pool from functioning.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Strange. I don't seem to able to change the Clip Name. The change takes no effect.
I most have a setting set somewhere.

This sounds suspiciously like what I reported yesterday on the Fairlight page...

Has anyone discovered how this name can be used after setting it? Can it be used as a variable in deliver? Is it scriptable? Thinking about vfx workflow usages, where missing individual shot names has been an obstacle before.
I do stuff.

For this feature, right click on the clip instance in the timeline.

Yes, I have try that and any other way (that I know) but it won't change it.

I would assume you can still use the %Clip Name variable and that it would be accessible via the <Timeline Item>.'GetName' function in the Python API.

What I don't see is a way of setting the name of the Timeline Item via Python:
Code: Select all
['AddFlag', 'AddFusionComp', 'AddMarker', 'AddTake', 'AddVersion', 'ClearClipColor', 'ClearFlags', 'CopyGrades', 'DeleteFusionCompByName', 'DeleteMarkerAtFrame', 'DeleteMarkerByCustomData', 'DeleteMarkersByColor', 'DeleteTakeByIndex', 'DeleteVersionByName', 'ExportFusionComp', 'FinalizeTake', 'GetClipColor', 'GetDuration', 'GetEnd', 'GetFlagList', 'GetFlags', 'GetFusionCompByIndex', 'GetFusionCompByName', 'GetFusionCompCount', 'GetFusionCompNameList', 'GetFusionCompNames', 'GetLeftOffset', 'GetMarkerByCustomData', 'GetMarkerCustomData', 'GetMarkers', 'GetMediaPoolItem', 'GetName', 'GetRightOffset', 'GetSelectedTakeIndex', 'GetStart', 'GetStereoConvergenceValues', 'GetStereoLeftFloatingWindowParams', 'GetStereoRightFloatingWindowParams', 'GetTakeByIndex', 'GetTakesCount', 'GetVersionNameList', 'GetVersionNames', 'ImportFusionComp', 'LoadFusionCompByName', 'LoadVersionByName', 'Print', 'RenameFusionCompByName', 'RenameVersionByName', 'SelectTakeByIndex', 'SetCDL', 'SetClipColor', 'SetLUT', 'UpdateMarkerCustomData']

I've tested it twice and it works without issue.

I want to check Operator Error here. You are using version 17.2?

Abel

Can you provide a reproducible example - a series of steps that works regardless of project - or a link to a DRP project export and some context like "this timeline, this clip". Basically, I'm trying to figure out if it is specific to a certain clip/clip type or just that one project. You can start a new project, drag a clip into the timeline, right click, head to Clip Attributes and see if setting the timeline name leads to it being different from the media pool name.

Lastly, given there are Windows and Mac OS users saying that they can see the new timeline name being reflected, can you add more detail to your report - viewtopic.php?f=21&t=90190 is a good starting point for that.

Thanks

Thank you Shrinivas,
Un fortunately I wont have more time to spend on this issue. We are continuing with 17.1. Will keep an eye on this for upcoming projects.
Cheers.
