17.2 sound issue while using mkv files

PostSat May 15, 2021 1:34 pm

Hello,

first things first! 17.2 is awesome and .mkv support is a great feature.

However, i noticed many sound issues within Edit and Fairlight while using .mkv files. Most of the time it's stuttering, the sound is bouncing between the left and right channel, left or right channel is quieter than the other (even on my mono microphone track), or the sound will not play at all.

It feels like a cache / render problem of some kind, since i can move the playhead back and it will eventually work fine. Sometimes everything sounds right the second try, sometimes it takes more tries.

I deleted my render cache (all) and changed between render cache none and smart without a difference.

After that i remuxed the same .mkv into .mp4 (like before 17.2) and everything is fine again :!:

I'am out of ideas if its a hardware / driver issue or within 17.2.

I'm having the same issues. I also can not see the waveforms.
Hope they get this sorted because would love to do my recording in MKV.

Hi,
similar issues here on Linux
wanted to try the new import capabilities of Studio 17.2,
since my Lumix records mp4 with h264+aac, I always need to rewrap and convert the audio to PCM.
Tried to encapsulate in mkv container and audio stutter started to appear.
Same files rewrapped in quicktime mov container, no issues.
I use Shutter encoder, so any ffmpeg based tool can be used to try reproduce the problematic files.

Can you give us a sample MKV file to take a look at?

MKV files are containers. If the video and audio codecs inside are Studio only, or supported only on specific platforms, Resolve will interpret them that way.

Thanks for your reply.

I already deleted the first .mkv i worked with. Yesterday i recorded a new stream with StreamElements OBS and found the same issue while editing the .mkv file.

The whole file is around 31 GB. However, maybe a few codec infos are something to start with ?

Hi Dirk

Thanks for the response. We're able to see the issue with OBS origin MKV files.

Thanks

Hi,

What is the issue with the original file, and are there setting we should use in OBS to prevent the issue?

You may need to record to a non-MKV format for now

DaVinci Resolve 17.2.1 includes fixes to decoding certain MKV clips. Please check if this fixes your issue.

This issue is indeed fixed in 17.2.1 and later (tested on 17.3)!
