iPad Pro XDR as HDR output monitor

PostSat May 22, 2021 2:47 am

So I just got the 12.9" M1 iPad Pro XDR. Since it can display 1000 nits HDR, I tried using it as a Davinci Resolve Studio output monitor. It's connected to my my iMac Pro via Thunderbolt cable using MacOS's 'sidecar' feature.

Works fine, but no HDR. I tried a variety of settings adjustments, but scopes cap at 600 nits. I'm not surprised since this is a new device, and there's no documentation that states it can act as an HDR monitor via Sidecar, but I was hoping it would.

Anyone thought of trying this setup? I'm currently editing/grading my first live-action feature film (first was animated) and since I don't yet have an HDR monitor, I thought my gorgeous new 1000 nit (1600 nits peak) iPad would double as that.

Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!
