GPU memory is full. I tried everything.

PostTue May 25, 2021 10:50 am

Hello everyone,

I am getting really frustrated as I am trying to render a video for a customer and keep running into the problem: "GPU memory is full."

I have been working with Resolve for more than half a year and I have the Studio version. I have edited and rendered longer 4K videos before without any problem.

Now I have a 53 second 4K timeline but I am using mostly FullHD RAW footage from BMPCC 4K. It contains no Fusion miracles, just a couple of Resolve transitions and basic color correction. The render goes smoothly and quickly until about 34% and then the error pops up. I really don't see any reason why there should be a problem.

I have searched everywhere and I tried this:
- Updating Nvidia drivers (Studio as well as Game Ready)
- Switching between CUDA and OpenCL and manual selection of GPU
- Copying the whole project into a new timeline
- Rendering in different codecs and formats
- Rendering each third of the project individually (to then put them together)
- Lowering Noise Reduction levels

I don't know what else is there to do or how to fix it but I would appreciete some help as I need to deliver this project soon. Thanks a lot!

What are your system specs?
Davinci Resolve Studio 20 build 49, Windows 11, Ultra 7 265k, Nvidia 5070 TI, 576.80 Studio

I am working on:
DaVinci Resolve 17.2 build 11
Windows 10
AMD Ryzen 5 4600H 3.00 GHz with Radeon Graphics 512 MB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti 4GB
16 GB RAM DDR4

I know this GPU isn't so great for rendering 4K video (in 24 fps btw) but I have done so before without a problem and the render runs fine with this project too until it hits the error. I don't believe my hardware wouldn't be able to pull this off.

I'd suggest using an older version of DR then. Your GPU is at the lower limit for 4K/UHD, pending on the effects you try to use (temporal ones in particular).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Did you try reducing the maximum render speed?
Resolve 20.0 Mac OSX 15.5 Sequoia, Monitor 3G, FSI SDI grading monitor.
Mac M1 Studio Max 32GB
