In "Adobe Premiere Pro" there's a scaling-option called "Set to frame size" in the category "Default Media Scaling", which is in the category "Preferences" (project-settings).

This scaling-option is good for automatically matching videos that have different frame-sizes/resolutions, within the same project - so that one can thereby avoid black boxes appearing above/below, or on the top/bottom, of any mismatching videos.

So the question is, is there a similar scaling-option in DaVinci Resolve, which can be set on the project-settings itself (as opposed to be set individually on each individual video) - which thereby takes care of the different resolutions of different videos, so that I don't have to worry about the resolutions whenever I add some random video to the timeline?

Yeah, but the manual is over 3000 pages... So it would be quicker to get an answer by just asking people on this forum

Oh, okay. I'm not used to manuals of this size, so I didn't know that. When I first saw the insane number of pages, I thought maybe people who are interested in video-editing are so dedicated that they actually read the entire manual. But what you're saying here makes much more sense, of course.

And I rarely use the query-function when reading pdf-documents, so I forgot that that is even an option. So, thanks for reminding me.

You're welcome. Im also from a generation which received all the formal education by printed books, but we need to adapt. The table of content is also linked to the respective pages, BTW.

Here are two tips to using the manual effectively:

1) Understand Resolve's terminology. For example, "handles" refers to the portion of the clip before the "In" or after the "Out" point. If you use the right terminology, it's a lot easier to find things in the manual using a search.

2) Use the table of contents - click the "bookmark" icon on the left edge of the PDF window to open the TOC pane - it allows rapid access to the particular section of the manual you're interested in.

By the way, is there some kind of guide somewhere on this forum (or maybe in the manual itself), that lays out and explains all of Resolve's terminology? Or do I simply have to "learn as I go", by picking up some words here and there from other people?

Well, my parents had an encyclopedia.

Most of the terms in the manual are terms of trade, but I don't know where to find a complete collection.

The Resolve guides on the Training Page are meant to be followed through from beginning to end, but the reference manual is, as the name implies, a reference work. It's like a dictionary - there when you need it but not meant to be read from one end to the other.

A glossary would be a great idea, but I'm not aware of one. I've been picking up the terms as I've gone through the training material.
