Shared Database - connection and key fail

PostFri May 28, 2021 1:50 pm

I'm trying to set up a shared database, and when I try to connect to the PostgreSQL with the Project server running, I get a failer to connect, see logs prompt. Included is the logs, any help?

You have a lot of DB timeout errors like:
[0x000043a0] | DbCommon2 | ERROR | 2021-05-28 08:27:43,781 | Cannot connect to acuity_ep27192.168.1.15 database: timeout expired

Is the 192.168.1.15 a separate machine from your Resolve workstation? If so can you ping it? Can you use Pg Admin IV to connect to it?

Maybe the PostgreSQL server is not running or if it's on another machine maybe there is a network or a port 5432 issue.

Thanks Igor,

Interesting that it's erroring to 192.168.1.15.

That was the old shared database connection when I was at the studio. I'm now on a new network, and the project server is sharing over 169.254.150.34. I can ping that connection no problem, and also access my shared storage at that address.

Is there way to change shared databases once you've already established a connection previously?

How did you migrate the database?

I created a new PostgreSQL database, and imported DRPs into that database, enabled sharing, and selected the 169.254.150.34 as the network interface.

On the machine I'm trying to connect to, I keep getting the connection error when manually trying to connect or using the exported connection key from the Project Server.

Is there any special permission I need to enable for the shared database? I just tried again from starting a new PostgreSQL database, and sharing that through my network. I get an error: ...... ....Please ensure that the database server is configured to allow connections from this device.

You may need to modify the PostGres hba_conf file. See if the IP range is allowed.

Circling back to this issue.

I just installed 17.3 and 17.3 Project Server, and trying to connect to a new Shared PostgreSQL created on 192.168.4.2 from a computer on the same network with IP of 192.168.4.3. I can ping both computers without issue and can access shared storage.

I still get an error "Failed to connect to the database. Please check log file for more details." This happens with both manually trying to connect as well as using the "export access key"

The Project Server is set to the correct network interface (192.168.4.2)

Included are the log file from the failed connected computer.

The database I'm trying to access is called "share" - this is a newly created database from the Resolve Project Server, and I am able to connect to it from the computer hosting the Resolve Project Server.

The status in Resolve Server is "compatible" and shows that sharing is enabled. I had this working on a different network, would love to get this back up and working again on this new network.

looking through the log files, I'm not even seeing a failed connection to the 192.168.4.2 "share" PostgreSQL. When I try to connect to the "share" database on the Project server computer, I can only connect to it through the "local" 127.0.0.1 connection, when trying to use the computers own IP address (192.168.4.2) it fails to connect.

So it looks like my Resolve computer trying to connect to the Resolve Server is looking for the wrong IP address, as the original computer that was hosting the shared databases is unavailable. Is there a way to completely re-set the shared database server so new connections to a newly hosted computer will work?
