H.265 media offline frustration

PostMon May 31, 2021 10:11 pm

Hi, I just spent $295 (studio) + $1 (Microsoft hvec) because I was told on various forums including here that I needed the paid studio version so that Davinci would recognize my Rove 4k Stealth dash cam footage that is in a codec of h.265. But come to my surprise it still shows "media offline" even after upgrading to the studio version of Davinci.
I have a MSI GE75 Raider 95f Laptop that has plenty of juice to run 4k and Davinci.
Yes I know how to relink and it didn't work.
Can someone on here please help me out!!!

Can you post a sample for testing?

Not being able to relink suggests that at one time you did have it imported in resolve?

And did you make sure you downloaded the studio version of resolve? I know this sound silly, but I find it easy to mistakenly download the wrong version.

I took a photo of what comes up on the screen when I open Davinci up. And to reclarify, I do know how to and did relink the footage but it did not work.

Put a sample on any free cloud service (like Dropbox, Google Drive etc.) and post the link here.

If you have the ability to permanently embed a drive letter, that might help Resolve maintain the link from the Media Page to the drive.

We warn clients that a major issue with some H.264 & 2.65 file formats (particularly Long-GOP 8-bit) is the lack of unique file names and non-conflicted timecode numbers. At the worst, we suggest using a file renaming program to add a date prior to the camera letter -- like "0621_C001_12345.mp4" or something like that. Of course, this has to be done prior to editing, where you consider these the "new masters."

Transcoding to a simpler format like DNxHR or ProRes will generally provide smoother playback as well, though the file sizes will be larger.
