Fusion performance with SSD external

I’m running Davinci Resolve studio 17 on a mid 2014 Macbook Pro with 16gb of RAM. Resolve says their Fusion FX program runs better with 32gb of RAM. I don't know if this makes sense but if I were to put my Mac Big Sur OS on a 1tb SSD external drive (and start up from there), along with my Resolve software would that improve Fusion performance as well as my computer performance generally? I read on another site (not about editing) that putting your OS onto an SSD external drive would improve your computers performance. Obviously my Mac would still have 16gb of RAM. But if my computer is being run externally by the SSD drive does it basically trump my RAM?

No.
RAM is much, much, much, much faster than even a fast SSD, as DDR3 RAM can have read and write speeds of 6GB/s and faster (17GB/s), SSD are around 200MB/s
