Speed Editor Not Working With USB

PostSat Jun 05, 2021 1:34 pm

I have a feeling that this will be something very straight forward and simple, but, at this point, I have been stumped by this.

I have recently made the switch to Davinci Resolve Studio from Premiere Pro. In doing so, I am now the proud owner of a Speed Editor. The unit works great over Bluetooth, but I cannot get it to work within Resolve over USB. It is my understanding that the unit should connect to and work within Resolve over a hardwired USB connection in addition to a Bluetooth connection.

When I first plugged the unit into my machine (W10, Ver. 21H1), the hardware was recognized by the machine and I could see it in the Davinci Control Panels module/program. However, no amount of tinkering would get it to work within Resolve. This included updating to 17.2.1 as well as the 1.3 firmware update to the Speed Editor. Still nothing, but I was eventually able to get it paired to the machine through Bluetooth and it works great within Resolve over Bluetooh. However, I cannot get the the SE to work when just connected via USB. I have tried unpairing, repairing, factory reset, etc., but to no avail. I understand that I should be thrilled that Bluetooth works as that seems to be the bigger issue out there, but I am now determined to figure out this USB "issue". I say "issue" because I am afraid that I have missed something very simple and/or straight forward.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If u are able to see the SE from the DaVinci Resolve Panels Setup then at least the pc seems to see the SE. With firmware 1.3 installed, do a power down restart and see if resolve finds the SE, if not, try turning off firewall or other security to see if that helps

If still no joy, Ser the FAQs for how to generate resolve logs and post

Hi

To add to Peter's response, can you also try the usual USB debug routine - connect directly to the computer (i.e. without a splitter/extender), try a different cable, try a different USB port, and check hardware troubleshooting to see if there are issues with the port?

If that doesn't work, you may want to post a log archive and an NFO file using the steps here.

Thanks

My apologies for the delayed response as I was out of town for business. I had tried the different USB cables, ports, etc. I was plugging directly into the motherboard connectors and made sure to try it on ports tied to different USB host controllers even. Although I had not had any previous problems with my AMD platform and USB compatibility, I know others have. I noted that my motherboard, Aorus X570 Elite WiFi, had a recently updated BIOS version available. So, I went ahead and updated my BIOS which contained the latest AMD AGESA that addressed USB compatibility issues. Low and behold, my SE now works over USB and reports battery level under Davinci Resolve's preferences as well (which was absent previously when connected through USB). So, if others are running an AMD platform and find they are suffering from USB issues with their SE, check out your motherboard's manufacturer's website for any potential BIOS updates that address USB compatibility. Thanks everyone for the assistance and hope my post helpful to someone else in the future that may suffer similar issues.
