Cut page import yields duplicate clip, Media page does not

From a new project, edit page, I drag a clip into the timeline (and it appears as a clip in the master bin). I then go to the Media page. Whether I drag the (same) file to the media OR use right-click / Import Media with the same file, Resolve CORRECTLY did not add a duplicate clip.

However, when I go to the Cut page and click one of the handy "Import Media" icons (the single file one, OR as part of the import a directory icon), then Resolve INCORRECTLY created a duplicate clip in my list of media.

I tracked this down via an issue with a large project: I had manually imported a few dozen clips to sketch up a proposal for the project, and later imported the massive tree of media required to complete the project, using the Cut page's "import directory" option. The sample clips were re-imported, although I did not know it at the time. Later, to reduce the project load time and the size of the exported archive, I wanted to remove all unused media from the nearly-completed project. I created a smart bin via the Media page with criteria "usage is 0" and "clip type is" (Still, Video, etc.). In skimming the filter before I deleted the clips, I was surprised to see clips I knew I had used in the project (which turned out to be because of the double import).

This seems like a bug. I have read others with related situations. I wanted to note that the advice that "operators shouldn't import things twice" seems like an incomplete reply given that Resolve is making an effort not to duplicate clips - it just doesn't seem to have that code working in some of the spots it should.

Thanks for diagnosing and reporting this - but I wouldn't count on a post in the forums to catch the attention of the developers. If you want to be sure that this will be looked at it's better to report it via the e-mail link at the bottom of the BlackMagic Support Page. That also goes for the Cut Page import issue you posted separately.

Sending bug reports to the support email is excellent idea but what make u think Sean that devs don’t see what’s on the forum? We are here every day.

Thank you Sean, and Peter; I've reported the bugs via the email as suggested.

I'm relatively new here and so I don't pretend to have extensive experience, but there are three reasons I came to this conclusion:

- I've seen several threads complaining about various issues that seem to have been going on for a fair amount of time that don't appear to have been addressed and in some cases not even acknowledged.

- I received the same advice from another longtime poster.

- I did report a bug I discovered via the email link and got a pretty prompt reply that it could be reproduced and would be passed on to the development team.

So it's just my impression that an email is a surer way of making sure an issue comes gets duly considered.
