Template Bundles wont install on linux

PostFri Jun 11, 2021 2:24 am

I use Resolve 17.2.1 on Pop Os. When I try to install a .drfx bundle it says "Template could not be saved".

I tested the same Template bundle on windows and it installed without errors.

Hello.

I use Resolve Studio 17.4.1 on Linux Mint, and I have exactly the same problem.
Has someone found a workaround to this very annoying bug?

Best regards.

Since I really needed a bundle, I looked at config files, folders… and I found a workaround.

It is not totally satisfying, but it allows to install drfx bundles on Linux.

.drfx file have to be copied (or moved) in one of theses folders:
  • ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates (I recommend, since it is the user space).
  • /opt/resolve/Fusion/Templates (install directory)

Important: .drfx file must be copied (and not uncompressed).

Bundle will not be available immediately, but only after restarting Davinci Resolve.

Hi everyone,

thank you for this post. I tried and it works for perfectly for files .drfx

I'm not sure this is the right place. However, I tried for copy in the same location files .setting and it didn't work.

As you can see I'm a beginner in Davinci Resolve, but I use linux.
So I don't really understand the difference between .setting and .drfx.

What is the right process to import in davinci resolve on Ubuntu file .setting.

Thank you in advance

Running Studio 18.1 on Linux Min 21

Installing .drfx file in ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates yielded the same error: the template bundle could not be saved

Installing in /opt/resolve/Fusion/Templates got me one step further: It prompted to install the file saying it would add the selected template bundle to the Effects Library", but it failed with the same error.

BlackMagic advises against installing as root.

I surmise it just was never tested under Linux?

I suspect this is a permissions issue. If you look at the install directory, perhaps in /opt/resolve/Fusion/Templates, it may be owned by root and simply clicking the drfx file will try to install it as a non-privileged user. You either can copy the file manually with SUDO or perhaps change the permission of your installation directory to the appropriate user.

Either should work. FYI - I have not tested this but I did notice the permission of my install directory was indeed different.

Hi,

I use Manjaro and I have the same issue.

Till now the only way for me to install my own drfx was to copy the file in one of the 2 different places:
for single user: ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates/
for ALL users (of the PC): /opt/resolve/Fusion/Templates

I tried to launch DaVinci resolve with ROOT permissions but nothing changed as dragging & dropping the drfx file in Fusion tab does not install the bundle and we get the same error.

Hi,

I use Artix and I have the same issue.

I cannot install even my own drfx. I tried to copy the file to both places suggested:

for single user: ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates/
for ALL users (of the PC): /opt/resolve/Fusion/Templates

However, it doesn't work. The custom titles appear blank in the program.

Yep, I have this issue too on the 18.5 betas.

Check in your ResolveDebug.txt and you'll see that it cannot find packages images etc too:

Code: Select all
[0x7fee55fff700] | Fusion               | ERROR | 2023-07-15 18:52:41,611 | Loader4 failed to load file "/home/user/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates/mTuber3.drfx/Edit/Titles/MotionVFX/mTuber 3/Social Media/../media/3d/Instagram_Bg.png" (clip "setting:../media/3d/Instagram_Bg.png" at frame 0) : No such file or directory

These files are definately present in the .drfx.

I assume they either temp extract the file, or use a ZIP file overlay -- broken either way.

If you manually extract and place in the right directories, things work; not ideal.

Thanks for reporting the issue with installation of DRFX templates on Linux.

For the time being, the workaround is to install manually to the Templates: directory. On Linux, this is typically ~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates.

The file name extension case matters on case sensitive file systems. It MUST be lower case .drfx

"Free Starter Pack 2.0 (VES).DRFX" is not a valid file name because the extension is in ALL CAPS. :o

The reason this works on Windows and Mac is a side effect of case insensitive file systems. By default most Linux file systems are case sensitive and therefore files that have .DRFX file extension will cause problems.

I understand this partially fixes a users' issue, but not mine as posted above.
