Linked Selection - weird acting

PostFri Jun 11, 2021 12:14 pm

When selecting an edit in the EditPage-Timeline with Linked Selection activated
multiple edits are selected on one track if the cuts are unequally distributed.
Pretty annoying and dangerous if one selected cut is out of sight !!

Dear Blackmagic: PLEASE get the basics to work properly before adding new stuff !

doesn't sound that surprising actually. i get how that happens, but it does feel like the most logical way of thinking from resolve's perspective.

honestly, i just did some experimenting out of curiosity and i don't know how it theoretically could be programmed better.

but you can easily link/unlink clips by pressing alt+control+L
alt shift L will toggle linked selection, alt click on the cut will do the opposite of it, and then holding control will allow you to select the audio cut as well.

Nonsense ! Of course this can be programmed in a reasonable way.
Have a look at Avid MC, Premiere, Final Cut...
Why is it logical that two edits are marked on one track ? Which editor would expect this behavior?

What you're seeing does make sense to me. I can see it's usefulness where J and L cuts are intentional.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I could understand, that three cuts are selected, when the cuts in Audio and Video are not on the same frame.
I don't get why there are three cuts selected when Audio and Video is cut in the same place.
And I absolutely don't understand the logic of three cuts selected skipping one (see attachment).
But I will give it a try and see if I could learn to use it reasonable.

Please excuse my wordings in the previous posts - I was annoyed because I didn't know about this behaviour and messed things up because the second cut was out of sight. Now I know and can deal with it.

The two edit points to the right of the playhead are at the same timecode, so they get selected.

Two edits to the left of the playhead is part of the video clip (with Linked Selection on), so it also gets selected.

The edit point immediately to the left of the playhead is neither part of another clip, nor at the same timecode, so...no selection.
