Crashing Every Time with 4K Render

PostSat Jun 12, 2021 4:45 pm

Hi everyone, new to the forums.

I am currently trying to render a new short film I just made, shot in 6K with the BMPCC6K. The 1080p version renders fine, in MP4 h.265 Main10, NVIDIA encoder, with 1828x1332 Academy resolution (film is in 4:3), Automatic Best quality, VBR High Quality, taking around 30 minutes to render 12 minutes of footage.

Unfortunately, when I try and render this in 4K (using the 4K Academy resolution), after barely a minute of rendering, Resolve crashes. I had a similar issue while rendering a short last December (filmed in 4K with the BMPCC4K), but at least in that case it was halfway through during a resource-intensive scene, and it showed the GPU Memory Full window. Here, it just crashes. And if I try this again changing small settings here and there, it crashes my whole computer with a Blue Screen of Death.

I am using Windows 10, 8GB RAM, 4GB VRAM NVIDIA 1050 Ti (466.47, reverted since it was stable and I thought the new one was giving me problems).

I need all the help I can get, this is making me go insane! Thanks in advance to whoever takes the time to reply.

With those system resources.. try rendering to DNxHR first, then bring that clip into the timeline to render the 265

Or use Handbrake for final encoding.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks to you both for the replies. I'm trying to render in DNxHR HQ with a low render speed (10), and it seems pretty stable. Hopefully it holds up.
