Timelines resolution: 4K->4K/HD timline->HD Render

PostMon Jun 14, 2021 9:00 am

Hi there,

Is it worth changing the timeline resolution to 4K (up from working in HD) towards end of project to export to HD if the original media is in 4k/6K braw? Basically, does downsampling before or after the edit make a difference? (Apart from forcing resolve to work harder in a higher timeline resolution)

My workstation doesn't struggle or anything, but thought I'd check if the difference is negliable or non-existent. If so I suppose it's just a waste to keep it at any higher than the targeted HD delivery, just not sure if 'downsampling' after all the grades and comps is slightly better...

Many thanks,
Dave

My preference is to work in a timeline matching the highest quality I will need for delivery.

If delivery will never be more than HD, work in an HD timeline.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
