Resolve does not read my timeline after new version

PostMon Jun 14, 2021 9:39 pm

Hey guys,

Dealing with some craziness. Resolve upgraded and brought in my old project into the new version, but now while I can see the clips in the timeline, there is no image in the viewer. Driving me mad. What is happening?

You don't give us much to go on. Give the FAQ a good read.

I'm having the same issue. Studio Version 17.2.2 no matter what I do. BM doesn't seem to help in any way. This is ******.

What the hell is wrong with 17.2.2?

PostFri Jul 09, 2021 3:00 am

I can't get anywhere with Support on this. If anyone has insight it would be magical.

Downloaded 17.2.2 build 4 of the Studio Version, which I own.

Cannot play anything back, no matter what I do, even if I open a new project from scratch. It's blank. No media plays. Version 16 works perfectly on my other machine which is just a straight up laptop with far crappier guts. I'm running 10.14.6 on a 2019 Mac with a Radeon Pro 580 8 GB graphics card. 40GB of memory. This shouldn't be happening.

Can't upload anything to forum it seems either, so I can't really show you what's going on. Support, it would be great to help with this.

#TKT-503-21606

Insult to injury I want to revert to a previous version of Studio, and it requires activation with the PHYSICAL CARD, which is god knows where. Why on earth in 2021 is it designed this way? Just let us have an account online like every single other tech company. End rant.

Since pretty much everybody else can play back in 17.2.2, it doesn't look like it's a Resolve problem, unless you think you have a special version, that nobody else have.

And yeah, I'm super happy that I don't need to have our workstations connected to the internet to make them working.

I have 17.2.2 loaded on a 2012 Mac. Specs in signature.
It runs better than 16 ever did.
I can even cut 8K ProRes.
Sony 4K Raw is a breeze and even 50fps H265 footage from my GoPro works well.
I'm very happy even though officially unsupported.
I just stacked 3 UHD H265 clips on a UHD timeline and shrank them to 50% all so they were all visible.
Solid playback but almost maxes out my machine.
I promise it is not the software but your hardware or its config.
DR17 makes use of all actual and virtual cores and maxes out my GPU as well.

The issue is with OpenCL on v17 and above - it does work... eventually.

There are multiple threads about this. Just do a search.

Ignore all the other "it's fine for me" responses you get.

Seeing as you are on a Mac, try switching to Metal instead.

I had an issue where perfectly valid MP4 files wouldn't show up in the 17.2.2 Media Browser and couldn't be imported into the project. I still have no idea why not, but after a reboot it worked just fine. So if you haven't done so yet, reboot and see what happens.

Please review the FAQs. Without the info requested there its challenging to guess what you need to do to fix your config. You can generate diagnostic logs and post a link to them here.

put the files on dropbox and a space in the path

ive also merged your posts.. please one thread

I have added the logs for viewing here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2dpn4mrngozjc ... 3.zip?dl=0

Nothing, absolutely nothing changed on my machine. It doesn't make sense.

17.2.2 is by far the most stable version ever. I'm currently forced to prepare some BRAW on a Mac mini (Intel) without an eGPU. I can even 'work' (just preparing stills) from 12K in an 8K timeline. It's dead slow, but stable as a rock.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I can appreciate your frustration. I have a slightly older but similar system. I have both GPU settings set to "AUTO", perhaps that might help.

Good luck!
