subclip automation

PostTue Jun 15, 2021 1:00 am

hello folks,
please pardon a likely newbie question:

I am trying to create sequential, random length subclips (for sports purposes) out of a longer clip, so I'm using I, O and Space, but would be nice to also have a method/shortcut to copy the selection from the viewer, into the timeline. Not sure if one exists, or if it is currently possible, with DaVinci Resolve 17, while playing clip in viewer mode, to just sequentially hit I-O multiple times and those subclips to be automatically clipped to the timeline, so as to minimize the amount of clicks (I, O, [space bar], move clip, [space bar] to start the play and start over, for the next subclip).

thank you kindly for any thoughts,
Cos

Not entirely sure I follow, but it sounds like you're just creating clip instances, not actual subclips, which are a different thing than just a clip added to a timeline.

As you move through the clip in the Source Viewer setting In/Out points, you can add that clip segment to the timeline in a myriad of ways, then move on to the next In/Out points.

Have you completed any training for Resolve yet? The Beginner's Guide was just updated for version 17, and in my view is a must for all newcomers.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Like Simon pointed out, these are not technically considered subclips. There is a Sapphire plugin that kind of does this. It randomly shuffles stuff around. If you need the actual cuts on the timeline this can be solved with the scripting. Another way to do this would be to use Excel to generate EDL with random in/out timecodes and then conform that EDL.
