Resolve Studio 17 not using GPU

PostSat Jun 19, 2021 3:00 pm

After finding out that the free version of Resolve is not using GPU, I just bought a "studio" license. But GPU is still not used, and rendering is now even slower than before.

Our setup:
Fujitsu Celsius M740 with Xeon E5-1620 and NVIDIA Quadro K4200
DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.2.1 build 12
NVIDIA driver 27.21.14.6259 from May 6th, 2021.

I saw a couple of similar post, but no noteworthy hint.

Any ideas on what might help?

Version 17 requires CUDA version 3.5. Yours is version 3.0.

You'll need a new GPU.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

What Jim means is that Resolve 17 uses CUDA 11. This requires an Nvidia GPU that has a minimum Compute Capability of 3.5. Your GPU only has one of 3.0 so will default to OpenCL with CUDA not being available. This change came about with Resolve version 16.2.8.
Resolve Studio 19.0b1 build 20
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo 860 SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (551.86 Studio Driver), Win10 Home (22H2), Speed Editor, Faderport mk1, Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ GW2270 + Samsung SA200, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Thanks for your replies! I had upgraded to 17 because of installing a "speed editor" which claims to require DaVinci 17.
So, it seems as a quick resolve, I'll put the speed editor aside, downgrade to 16 and look out for a more recent GPU.

I finally didn't hesitate long and bought a GPU the next day, a nVidia Quadro P2200.
Rendering is much faster now, rendering the sample video was 18 minutes with the old gpu (when it was no longer supported), and about four with the new one. Still, task manager leaves me a bit uncertain:

I had expected to have more load on the GPU, now that I'm using the Studio version and have the proper GPU.
Is this what I can expect? If so, why am I still limited by the CPU while the GPU should do the work?

Memory and GPU settings are right, I guess:

Da Vinci Resolve Studio is still on v. 17.2.1 build 12
nVidia driver is v. 30.0.14.7111 from June 21st, 2021.

Thanks for your support!
