Fairlight timeline issue

When playing back audio in the Fairlight timeline the visual timeline will appear to slow down and then speed back up after a few seconds of playing audio. The audio sounds correct but the playhead line does not match up to the actual audio because it slows down and then speeds up again.

This is when fixed playhead is enabled.

With Fixed Playhead disabled the CTI remains constant with an active transport?

Yes. It flows with no issues.

I can't duplicate this in Studio 17.2.1.

Have you any effects on the clips or tracks? Are they native or plug-ins?

They have nothing in the tracks. Actually they are tracks from the Ripple Training Fairlight Training. I did think that maybe the Editor Keyboard might be causing the issue however after replacing it with a bluetooth keyboard this was not the case.

With the timeline, which is 00:01:28:00 long and zoom to fit I cannot see this issue. However when I zoom in and it plays then the issue presents itself. I also deleted the tutorial and downloaded it again. I have the same issue.

I can also say as I go through the training the fact that the waveform not staying in sync with the playhead makes it very hard, if not almost impossible, to edit the audio.

I just tried it on my 2018 MacBook Pro 2.9GHz with 32 GB memory and a radon Pro 560X graphic card using Resolve 17 (free edition) and had zero issues with the playhead or the timeline moving back and forth.

I just tried it on my machine specs listed below using another partitioned drive running Catalina 10.15.7 and Studio 17.2.1 and I have the same issue as when I am running it on my Big Sur partition.

So it seems to work on an older laptop, but not with the machine specs listed below.

Anyone have any thoughts now?

Any change with the UltraStudio 4K Mini disabled?

If behaviour changes, does downgrading to Desktop Video 11.7 (the first to support macOS 11) improve variability of the CTI in Fixed Playhead mode?

Not reproducing this behaviour with Desktop Video 12.1 on macOS 10.15.7

Reynaud,

Good call. I had already brought in my Mix-Pre 6II as an interim sound device because of the jog wheel and JKL issues with using the US 4K Mini audio out and now completely disconnecting the US 4K Mini video solved the timeline lag and floating issues. Thank you.

I am so very frustrated that one of the main reasons I purchased the US 4K Mini is to be able to outside audio and video while working in Fairlight. Now I have no way to output my video while mastering my audio.

I have already reached out to Blackmagic support and they said the US 4K Mini not supported in Fairlight. How can I talk to someone about this that would care? I now have a $1,000 brick that has to be disconnected every time I want to use Fairlight audio.

The Fairlight Consoles offer that functionality.

US 4K Mini working fine here with MixPre 6 II - have you tried what Reynaud suggested, going back to DV11.7?

Steve,

I did not downgrade to 11.7 because I am in the middle of a project. I did hear from Peter here: ( viewtopic.php?f=33&t=143009 ) that there were some underlying changes being made so that after that happens they can start to look at the US 4K Mini and maybe it will work better.

Also in that thread I was able to detail all the issues together in one spot.
