Fixed. See below.
I am having issues trying to download Lesson Files for both "The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 17" and "The Editor’s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 17".
In both cases there is an error saying "... could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."
For the other new training materials the downloads function as expected.

Issue was with Browser setting of "HTTPS-Only Mode". Setting this caused the links above to not work.

This is absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to dive in!

Any idea if the training videos will be reproduced or expanded?

I'm on Pg 80 of the Fairlight guide and it is VERY helpful. Also, my first experience using the ADR functionality. As someone who has done all of this manually, creating visual cues on clips, creating tone cue tracks, and having to create a track per take, this stuff is FANTASTIC and well-thought-out. Great job!

Are the Lesson file Links Broken? They open a new tab, close it, then do nothing else. No downloads. I may check my browser really quick.

Thanks very much! I love you guys!

I'm currently finishing the Beginner's Guide and the only complaints I have:

1) Cut page tutorial no longer encompasses effects.

2) Color tutorial was reallocated and it now comes up immediately after the Edit tutorial. I prefer the prior layout in which Fairlight and Fusion comes after Edit and Color is the last one. It also creates a continuity issue since the project being worked on the Edit tutorial is supposed to be finished on the Fairlight tutorial, but now it comes to an abrupt stop.

3) I'm not sure if this is only happening with me, but in the Color tutorial, page 279, step 5, it asks to use the "Pick White Point" above "Gain" but not matter where in the picture I click it overexposes it.

I'd be grateful if someone can help me with the 3rd issue.

EDIT: I was able to "fix" the 3rd issue by using the "White Balance" dropper tool instead of the white point. Still, that was not what was asked to do and I'd like to know why using the white point overexposes everything.

I would love to hear from someone who knows what exactly goes wrong at this step.

I believe it has to do with the fact that it is a HDR clip. You can see in the histogram, after picking the white point, everything is inside the spectrum, but the viewer overexposes and clips it.
I do my gradings on the main monitor (10-bit, 4k but only 300cd) and I suspect this would be displayed correctly on an external HDR-monitor...

Checking "HDR mode" in the node seems to fix it, but I'm not sure if this is right.

Shortcuts doesn't work well if your keyboard is not declared as US keyboard in windows settings.

Did anyone ever find out what is the problem here? The same thing occurs for me, and although the overexposure is slightly reduced when I check HDR mode, it does not disappear. As this happens right at the beginning of the color tutorial with a fundamental function, it seems like a somewhat important issue and I'm surprised it does not seem to happen more often.

Thank you for the training materials. I am totally green with NLE and edited educational videos in the 80s on 1 inch machines and the only effects we had was to pixelate by shorting out memory in the TBC. So I am now a retired Avionics Tech that worked on Tv helicopters, that has lots of time. I am totally in awe of this software and started the training a few days ago and have 34 hours in. I can not stay away from my edit station. I hope to be able to learn more from the materials and this group. I also started a project of printing out the over 3600 pages of the reference manual and spend at least a hour to two a day reading it.
Thanks

Really impressed with Doria´s Colorist Guide, both video and pdf, but the inexorable march of progress seems to have engineered a mismatch between the menu options available in the current version (17.3.2) and the ones available at the time the Guide text was elaborated.

On page 4, under "Opening a Resolve Archive", Step 2, we find

2. Right-click in the Project Manager window, and choose Restore Project Archive.

In my version of DR Studio 17.3.2, there is no Restore Project Archive option in the Project Manager window. The only menu options relating to disk archives are Backup and Restore. If I attempt to use Restore, there is, logically enough, the expectation that I should navigate to a DR-recognizable backup file, and the Project 01 - Disunity Documentary.dra file under “BMD 17 CC - Project 1” folder cannot be loaded.

I´ve attempted to import the files using File menu options, but only succeed in importing the media files. The timelines however are not reconstituted, and display just red lines with no video content. I have been unable to find any option referencing Project Archives, but it is clear that the format of the lesson archives is quite different from what the Restore Archive module is expecting to be provided with.

Has no-one else yet noted the lack of a Restore Project Archive option in the Project Manager window?

My previous post illustrates well the impact of minor gaps and mismatches in documentation. The option to Restore Project Archive does not appear by default within the Project Manager window - you need to right-click an existing project thumbnail to gain access to a contextual menu that provides the Import Project Archive option. For me, it was the tip under step 7 on page 5 of the Colorist Guide explaining how to archive projects provided the vital key that unlocked the well-concealed access route to the Restore Project Archive option. Mods may consider omitting my original post, as the issue is both described and resolved in this update.

Re: New training materials on the BMD web site.

I have finished the Beginner's Guide and thought it was great. I have moved on to the Colorist's guide and I cannot get the media to play from lesson/part 1.

I am using the Apple 16 MacBook Pro with M1 Max, latest version of resolve, latest version of Mac (Monterey) and pro video formats, etc...

Whenever I restore the project archive in lesson 1 at the beginning of the book, the media shows as offline with no option of relinking the media at all. The timelines, audio, and bins all show up fine. I have tried to manually re-link/update source media and it doesn't change anything. After going into the folder through finder in the OS, I cannot play back the video files either. No thumbnail shows up for the clip. Instead it is just the QuickTime logo. Opening the video file in QuickTime plays back a black screen, but it does show the playback progression and timecode.

I have been able to load the video files into Final Cut Pro and they will playback in the timeline, but they will not display the current frame/thumbnail in the viewer while playback is paused.

I noticed the file is Prores 444 encoded so I did some tests running some of my other prores footage and transcoded prores clips without these issues.

Any thoughts or help?

However: the PDF guide for Fairlight suggest in Lesson 1 that the “Sound FX Sampler for Fairlight” folder that is supposed to be included with the additional media for this book. I haven't found it, though. Can anyone tell me how to get it? TIA

I also found that the Advanced Color video had no audio when I downloaded it a couple of times two days ago. Tried it with VLC and with MPC-BE
Apparently it is now fixed but for future reference I downloaded it from Blackmagic's Youtube channel and that works fine. You can download Youtube videos using the free app called 4K Video Downloader to Windows laptops etc n.b. I also have Youtube Premium (to avoid averts) and you can download for offline viewing but it only works on smartphones not on PC's.

I really like the new training videos but I don't find one for the Cut Page and Speed Editor. I think that would be a useful addition. I found some quick Speed Editor tutorials on YouTube. The new PDF books are a nice alternative to a huge manual.

hey hey
in the fairlight training video at 4 mins 1 seconds it was "supposed" to show a stereo signal with the voice coming out of only one side, but I think the whole video got mixed to mono. ( verified both by ear on youtube, and observation of waveform by downloading file). As an audio guy , this makes me sad. :)

The ones on YT by Darren Mostyn and by "Creative Video Tips" are quite helpful.

Hi,

is it me, or are the project files for the newest DR 17 Color training not ready yet?

If you refer to the Colorist Guide, yes, there's a problem with them.

Hi,
when I download the Advanced Color video (DaVinci-Resolve-17-Color-AdvancedColor.mp4) from the BMD site, there is no audio in this file?

Thanks Uli for confirmation; in fact none of the "project files" (not just for the Color section) of the new course works here; when hovering the mouse over what actually are "link placeholders", a (probably temporary) string is displayed - like e.g. "bmd.link/abcde" is displayed... Just a work in progress, I guess - but I cannot wait for them to appear!

I have downloaded all the files on 7th January and watched and used the "intro to color" today. It was fine. I will be using the other color videos shortly. I have already used the four "edit" videos and those were fine as well. The advanced color video didn't have audio at that time and I downloaded the equivalent Youtube version instead but I think its been fixed now.

Downloading the project files had me scratching my head for a while. When I'd downloaded the DRS version 15 project files it all worked as normal as far as I remember. But when I tried to download any of the v17 project files nothing seemed to happen on Chrome. Same on Edge. Did download OK using Firefox. Then I discovered that if you are in Chrome if you click on the three dots in the top right there is a menu item "Downloads". Click on that and you will get the list of downloads in progress. Some of the project file folders are very large - several GB's - so the list is helpful otherwise you may simply think you are not getting any downloads.
