Davinci Resolve UI slow and unusable

PostThu Jun 24, 2021 3:24 pm

Last week Resolve was working fine, but now I click on anything and it takes 2-5 seconds to perform a simple click. It's impossible to edit anything with how slow it is. I have looked at the davinci resolve forums, reddit, and google to find an answer to this problem and haven't found anything that has worked yet. Last year the same thing happen to my laptop and why I switched to a desktop to now find the same problem a year later. I'm at a lost right now because I've tried a bunch of different things and nothing has worked.

I tried these things so far:

- disabled all pointless things that run at start up on my computer

- disabled "Always highlight current clip in Media Pool"

- Made it so I only am using one monitor

- updated Graphics drivers and made sure it was studio drivers

- Restarted computer

- completely turned off computer and unplugged everything

- Uninstall and reinstall Davinci Resolve

- Stress tested my CPU and GPU to see if they were the problem

Specs:
Davinci Resolve Studio 17.2.1
Windows 10
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3000Mhz 8 cores
GPU: GeForce GTX 1070
Ram: 32GB 3200
PSU: 700w
Mobo: X470 Gaming pro carbon

I'm using a SSD to run Davinci, but files are in 5TB HDDs

That's what I am about to do now. I'll try installing the first stable version of Resolve 17 and see if it works

Its likely Windows did an update and broke the GPU operation.

Un install the GPU driver, then do a clean custom full install of the driver.

I'll try that, but wouldn't I see problems when I do gpu benchmarks or play games? I also want to mention this happens while I'm in project manager before I am even in a project

There has been reports that speededitor not be able to properly connect can cause slowdowns. Solutions include repair the SE, wake it up before starting Resolve, use USB cable among others. You may try if any of those help.

But it can be something else also.

For me, this occurred, too yesterday first time. The UI got slow and unusable.

Due to the Speed Editor not working on Bluetooth since the latest DR update, I have been using it with a USB cable.

I noticed that the Speed Editor USB cable wasn't connected. As soon as I reconnected it, the UI got normal again.

So I figured that this had something to do with the Speed Editor Bluetooth. I removed the USB cable again and removed the Speed Editor BT connection from the list of BT devices.
The DR UI was normal again.

Funny thing happened, the Speed Editor still had lights on. I searched for and added its BT connection back to windows and now the Speed Editor works with the BT again!

Did you try using Speed Editor with a USB cable?

Speed Editor is working fine with USB connected. What i understand is that NVIDIA recent update drivers are causing the issue and to make it worst Windows update messing up with everything.

There will be hot fix released soon for NVIDIA GPU make sure to perform a clean install for NVIDIA

There is no problem with SE connected with Bluetooth, Make sure your Bluetooth Dongle Receiver is 4.0 and above not below

I have not found the Documentation for SE (Speed Editor)

Hope Peter(BMD) can guide us if there is a document related to specification with respect to SE (Speed Editor)

[quote="leodsouza"]Speed Editor is working fine with USB connected.

"... There is no problem with SE connected with Bluetooth, ..."

This has not been my experience.

When I start Resolve after being off overnight (with the SE disconnected from USB and presumably asleep), DR works smoothly and Task Manager shows very little activity for Windows Explorer. If I try to wake the SE by hitting keys, Explorer suddenly shows much higher activity (5%-15%) and DR slows to be unusable. Turning off computer BT (via Settings) causes DR to return to normal, but turning BT back on starts the problems again. The only thing that returns DR to normal (with BT on) is to connect the SE via USB.

BMD needs to fix this BT connection problem or provide us with a way to turn off the SE when we are not using it.
