No Edit Folder under Templates

PostMon Jun 28, 2021 6:01 pm

I've got transitions I'd like to install but when I go to Program Files > Blackmagic Design > DaVinci Resolve > Fusion > Templates there is no Edit folder. There is only a .drfx templates bundle file... Please help.

Hello

This is new for version 17, however, your "Edit" folder is still available.

The "Program" file path is for the defaults and will change when DaVinci Resolve is updated.

The path for your own effects is the user path or program data path
- Windows:
- All users: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates\Edit\
- Specific user: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\

You'll find all the information regarding paths etc under the Help Menu > Documentation > Delevoper > Fusion Templates > README.txt

Hello

It looks like you have a problem with your installation as those are the official paths.

I would be asking myself what has changed since they were last available.

The only thing I can suggest is to reinstall DaVinci Resolve. You could add the folder and see if it works as you or an application may have accidentally deleted them.

I had the same problem today when trying to install the first pack of purchased templates in the directory specified by the seller. What I have is 17.2 that auto updated to the latest version on a new Win 10 machine, neither the software or the computer have been used.

Solution:
I created the missing directories, and it worked. I see the templates in DaVinci and I can use them. I threw the whole directory structure from the seller in the Edit folder, and DaVinci will add them at the bottom under its' own transitions.

Re: No Edit Folder under Templates

I just reinstalled windows, and Davinci resolve aswell-
now turns out there's no EDIT folder where to put my third party transitions!!! ( .setting files )
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the same and even diffrent versions of Resolve studio 17, and installation just won't create those folders where third party transitions go.
I even created the Edit folder by hand, copied the transitions in it and davinci doesnt show any of them-
I searched up on BM forum and there is no clear answer to this problem.
Is there another way to install transitions now or what?
help pleaseee

Hi all!!

I'm relatively new to DR17, and a Mac user as well. I too encounter this issue with no being able to use the saved nodes I had done in the past, and I also cannot seem to overcome this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling. Done that many times, tried many methods, but still stuck with the same problem. Even my finder cannot direct me to the path as stated in the DR text notes. Has anyone manage to go around this issue? Please do kindly share your advise. Please :...( Many thanks in advance!!!

Switch to the Fusion tab. Click on Effects>Templates>>Edit then either Effects, Generators,Titles,Transitions. Then click on the 3 dots menu and click Show Folder. What do you see?

I've also just re-installed Davinci Resolve 18.5

For Windows goto:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates

"[user]" is your user name folder

Inside Templates folder, create folder:

Edit

Inside Edit folder create these folders:

Titles
Transitions

You can put your *.settings transitions or titles in there respective folders.

To help organize your downloaded transitions or titles you can also create subfolders which will reflect in Davinci.

Example:
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Transitions\Seamless Transitions
or
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Transitions\Ultimate Transistions

This worked for me so help it works for you too.

Make sure Hover Scrub is enabled in the 3 dot menu at the top right of the transitions window.

If you scrub the cursor over the tile from left to right, nothing happens?

Are the Resolve titles working as expected?

Hello!
Yes, the Hover Scrub is enabled and I can see the preview of the other default titles. When I insert some of the default titles in my timeline, everything works fine. It's the new ones... even if I created the right folders. I tried with another title pack, and still doesn't work...

And when I go in the Fusion tab / Templates / Edit / Titles then «Show Folder», I don't see DaVinci presets. I only see the ones that I installed and doesn't work...

In the Resolve Help menu, select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop" and send us the log file.

Also send 1 of your non-working title templates, and I'll do a test here.

You can PM those to me if desired.

Re: No Edit Folder under Templates

This is what I see. There appears to be some issue with how the templates are initializing fonts. I can't tell you why that is. You need to ask Motion Array why that's happening.

All of the Large titles I've looked at also appear black. Most, if not all of them, have 3 title sections in the Inspector, each with its own font selection.

On the Edit page, I need to apply the title to the timeline, then select the title in the timeline, and in the Inspector, scrub each titles font. Sometimes scrubbing the font of the first section makes it all work. Sometimes I have to scrub all 3. But always after scrubbing all the available font selections in the Inspector, it starts magically working.

Give that a try and see if you see the same.

I have an update on this issue. Based on new info, I think your issue is that the fonts the templates are using, are not on your system.

Here's how you can test:

Put one of the titles on the timeline.

Open the Fusion Console window. Workspace menu: Console.

On the Edit page, put the playhead over the title and scrub back and forth. Watch the Console window. Is it showing missing font errors? If so, that's the issue. Load whatever fonts its complaining about, and that should solve the issue.

You'll probably need to do that with all the Motion Array titles, as it's likely different ones are using different fonts.

Or maybe Motion Array can tell you what fonts you need to install.

You should have at least this folder:

Library\Application Support\Blackmagic Design\Davinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates

If you have that, and the Templates folder in empty, just create the Edit\Titles folder path manually, and put your .setting files in it.

Hi Dwane, i just installed Davinci Resolve version 18.6.2

i already manually create those directory folders -> Library\Application Support\Blackmagic Design\Davinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Titles

and also i already put all of my .setting files in it

all of my .setting files appears on edit tab, but while i try to drag one of them to the timeline OR try to apply it on my clip, it doesn't work anymore

it's look like the .setting files just blanked and not working. I can't see any preview and it's not playing in my program

how could it happen?

and what's the solution?

i really need help

What type of settings file is it? What doesn't work when you try to use it?

If it's a title, it's possible that the font it requires is not on your system.

In the Workspace menu, select Console. Watch the console window when you try to use your effect, and see if it complains of a missing font.

Same problem here, on a macbook air.

By the way there is no 'Blackmagic Design' folder in the Application Support.

I can find one folder with this name here: Containers/DaVinci Resolve/Data/Documents/Blackmagic Design and there I can see a 'Fusion' Folder and inside 2 folders: a 'default auto save' and a 'queue' folders. Both folders are empty.

I also searched for a 'Template' folder. None existing (unless for media composer).

So no way to use the templates...

Apple requires App Store apps to be sandboxed. So the normal Resolve folder structures are not available.

To add Fusion Titles and Transitions, the easiest way would be to go into Project Settings - Color Management, and in the Lookup Tables area, select Open LUT Folder.

This will open Finder on the LUT folder. In the Finder View menu, select Show Path Bar.

Expand the Finder window horizontally, so you can see the whole convoluted path to the LUT folder.

Then in that path area, select Application Support.

Then select Fusion - Templates

In the Templates folder, create an Edit folder.

In the Edit folder, create a Transitions and a Titles folder.

Put your .setting file in the appropriate folder.

If you happen to have a .drfx file instead of a .setting file, put that into the Fusion - Templates folder.

You'll need to restart Resolve to see the new thing.
